I got another HDMI to VGA from another seller. IT WORKS !!! I able to connect my old VGA to Blu-ray player !!! Only thing, concerned blu-ray movie, there are black bars at the top and bottom of blu-ray movie, it totally steal away any immersion experience.

I have the same problem right now. I bought LG full HD monitor like 4 years ago, and I did not realise that it only has VGA port. And first problem I had with it was that my GPU had only DVI and HDMI ports on it, so I fixed it by getting one of those small VGA to DVI adapters, and it's working great. But yeah, right now I want to get a newer GPU and what I realised is that new GPU's only output digital signals, while VGA is analog, so I need one of these active adapters. So yeah, I got one for few dollars off Ebay, and I was wondering does it really work? I don't want to get a new GPU just to realise that I also need new monitor. I was just wondering because one of my friends was in the same situation, and he just got another monitor because of this.

If you have a standalone sound card there is no need to connect the audio aux on the converter correct it can connect directly to the sound card.

OK I am trying to piggy back the Monitor off of my HDMI TV I bought the VGA adaptor to HDMI for the monitor and plugged in the HDMI cable, just a note the VGA is a female end HDMI I don't think that makes a difference because like you said I don't want to waste a good monitor, so I hooked everything up and as I thought I would see the same picture that I see on my tv on the monitor and I was wrong no picture, I ran a HDMI splitter off the TV I wonder should I be running the splitter off the cable box ? I just realized I did not do that I wonder if it will work then what are your thoughts,
