But it is funny that for many years Grendel ravaged the hall, and it seems like he murdered the Danes in their sleep. They knew he came at night and they managed to fall asleep all as one and noone guarded the hall! They could at least gather there armed and wait for him, then try to fight him, or at least stand on the guard outside and shout that he is coming!
