Solo Sammy (before VH) has some killer jams like "There is only one way to Rock" and "Three Lock Box". Before he went solo, he was the lead singer of the band Montrose. There are some great tunes on the debut album, like "Bad Motor Scooter", "Rock Candy", and "Space Station #5". Watch the live version of "Space Station #5". Not only does Sammy do a great job on vocals, but guitarist Ronnie Montrose plyas a theremin that he has attached to his guitar! It's mind blowing to see that. No one dares tries that today.

Sammy started out in the early 70s as the lead singer of Montrose (the entire debut album, ‘Montrose’, is fire!). Shortly after, he began his solo career. He was with the supergroup ‘HSAS’ (Hagar, Schon, Aaronson & Schreive) a couple years before joining Van Halen in 1985 for their 7th album. He left VH in 1996, I believe. He’s been solo & part of groups ever since, such as Sammy & the Wabos (aka Waboritas, I think), Chickenfoot, and Sammy Hagar & the Circle.

Eagles Fly is one of my favorite Solo Sammy songs. I can see Amber closing her eyes and soaring with it. From the same album "I Never Said Goodbye", Hands and Knees and Give to Live are two more very good songs. That album was released when he was a new member of Van Halen. It features Eddie Van Halen on bass guitar, he also plays during a brief section of the guitar solo on "Eagles Fly"

I think his best solo song, is; "There’s only one way to rock". 🤘😎

Sammy was also singing the song Fast Times at Ridgemont High when Spicoli wrecked Jeffersons car. Just watched you guys watch that. 👍🏼👍🏼

Van Halen with Sammy on lead vocals with the song "Why Can't This Be love" is a must. Sammy replaced DLR after Dave left the band

Super smooth cool rockin voice 80s royalty baby! I love Sammy Hagar.I will cry when he dies. This song and other early ones Rock.I can't drive 55 was released just like 3yrs after this one here.Oh I loved watching you do this.Stopped what I was doing to watch y'all hear this.Gotta love it.Im one of the few Van Halen fans super excited to see him join a band I already loved. He was solo in late 70s early 80s and before that solo was in Montrose. Then 85-86 joined Van Halen, and did split over a rift. And was solo, Then Chicken foot his project band Cabo Wabo was his tequila and name of his bar in Mexico.Still performs all he can the man is pure rock and God's gift to him Rock voice!!

In my opinion Sammy Hagar is in the top 25 of all time well-rounded artists. That being: longevity, songs, music, stage presence, the whole package.
And probably in the top 10 of rock and roll lyricists. I don't think he's ever written a bad song and all of his lyrics are actually meaningful and good.

best song is Heavy Metal, the movie sound track version not the Standing Hampton album movie sound track version is better. Rock Candy and Bad Motor Scooter from when he sang in Montroes ... he kills it everytime

*Sammy was in Montrose in the early 70's...1973. He went solo in '76. He joined Van Halen in 1985, to 1996 and then went back to doing his own thing. The youngest Sammy you'll see will likely be 1973 or 1974 with Montrose. One of my favorites is Sammy (solo) doing Rock Candy (Montrose song) in 1978 - Winterland. He has Neal Schon (guitarist for Santana at age 15 or 16 yrs and founder and guitarist of Journey) come onto the stage to play guitar. Neal goes off on guitar and Sammy is somewhat in awe.*

After his Van Halen days he started a band called Chickenfoot.
Bassist from Van Halen Michael Anthony, guitarist Joe Satriani, and drummer Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Love love love Sammy. I hope you'll do more of his songs as frontman for Van Halen. You've done "Poundcake" and "Dreams" (both without realizing it wasn't David Lee Roth singing), but there are so many more great ones - "Feels So Good", "Best of Both Worlds", and my personal favorite "Amsterdam."

"When It's Love" and "Love Walks In" are two great Van Halen power ballads with Hagar.

I don't know if you caught it in your "Wedding Singer" reaction, but when Robbie saw Linda in his Van Halen t-shirt, he said something like "Now, take off my Van Halen t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up". This was a reference to David Lee Roth leaving and Hagar joining, sometime around 1985.

I love this song, and I haven't heard it in a thousand years. I remember when it was on the radio and regular rotation but had no idea who it was really because I was like 9 years old. Good good hard rock in the classic sense. There is a real common sound in this early '80s hard rock, you can find it in loverboy, Rick springfield, Billy squier, and of course Sammy here it has a very melodic and keyboard infused sound but it's mixed with heavyish guitars. Good stuff. Definitely a Time capsule.

You guys also heard Sammy in Van Halen with your Poundcake reaction! One of my favorite solo Sammy songs is "Plain Jane".

Ya, I remember listening to Sammy's on 8-Track because my friend had a pioneer 8-Track super tuner, and then when I got my car I got a Pioneer Cassette super tuner and I got a pioneer 40 Watt amp and a set of Jenson tri axles in the rear and a set of Jenson co-axles in the front and wow that was a good sounding stereo back in the day and play a lot of Hagar though it!
