Growing on Twitch is difficult, and people give a lot of different advice so today I am going to give you tips to grow your average viewers on Twitch or YouTube, and to keep them coming back, otherwise known as a growing a community.

The offer will be available for 5 days only. After 5 days, you can still sign up through the link for the 30-day free trial!

That said, today's tips work for people with 0 viewers and can be used to grow on Twitch, I'll be talking about a few growth strategies:

1. Doing something unique to grow on other platforms
2. How to keep viewers returning to your stream
3. How to create a clickable thumbnail for your stream
4. How to encourage viewers to follow your stream

You need to think about EVERY SINGLE STREAM as if it is producing content for other platforms, if you sit there waiting for a single viewer before being entertaining, just playing a game zombie-faced, then you are wasting your time.

You need to stream with the idea of making content for Tik tok, Yt shorts, instagram, full youtube videos, and any of the thousands of other platforms.

I promise I will show you exactly how I used these tips myself to grow on Twitch AND YouTube.

How To Choose a game for Twitch Growth

Personally, I think too many people rely on looking at the top games by viewers on Twitch to pick what they play, because I think there is a much better number.

Category Followers. These are the people who have hit follow on a category or game, and if someone has done that they are pretty much going to get recommended on their homepage that category. They’ll also get recommended other categories they like watching, but you can’t see that number.

An example, Stardew Valley a game I got a lot of growth in when I started, took me from 10 avg to 20 avg, has 798,000 followers, an incredibly active community who love it religiously, it still gets updates, has npc’s that are chatty so it's good for smaller streamers with less twitch chat to respond to, but it only averages at 500 - 800 total viewers and you only need 5 viewers to appear in the top 3 rows.

The style of this video is similar to Alpha Gaming and Gaming Careers in parts. A large influence on this series has come from content creators like Wild4games and Nutty.

For the "Any viewer that clicks on your stream needs to understand the goal" tip, a perfect example of this is how DougDoug does his streams. Every stream has a little text box in the bottom right that tells you exactly what's going on. It's such a simple thing but a tiny bit of text can add so much context for new viewers

I had my first stream yesterday and ended it after an hour and a half because I ran out of momentum and purpose for the stream. I also couldn’t keep anyone engaged because of the lack of purpose. I’m now going to start including good stakes like a death counter and other aspects to improve my stream and potential video experience! Thank you for the help!

The idea of having a goal for each stream is so simple, yet so good. New to your content and it has really gotten my gears turning! Excited to implement some new things in my stream and see what works!

I used to stream and planning to return to it and honestly, Eljays videos are making my self esteem and confidence go up by a big chunk! Like I genuinnely start believing in myself more after I watch his videos. Because not only is Eljays content, even on this channel is pure entertainment, he actually gives tips that DO HELP. I honestly really really appreciate that and I consider myself lucky finding this channel, because it made me realize that everybody has got game in this world.

It's amazing how people can forget "this is a show" even if they're standing on a stage in front of a theater full of people. You can get so wrapped up in the technical aspect of what you're doing that you forget your relationship with your audience, go offstage and say "ugh I messed up that line/joke/chord" and someone else reminds you that nobody noticed your "mistake, " but they did notice your need to demonstrate that you were upset by losing your smile and energy and disengaging.

The best thing I think you can do, as a performer who suddenly gets self-conscious, is remember that the audience just wants to have a good time. Recommit to connecting with them, don't double down on focusing on your craft. Some of the best shows I've seen were horrible from the purist's perspective, but the audience is already planning their next visit and promising to bring more friends.

one thing I try to rememeber is that every stream/video you put out has the potential to be the first time someone discovers you, so try to make every one the best you can

I'm a DJ and I play live on Twitch. I have 4 monthly shows and it's steady growth. What I always do with each show is play some new music I discovered and mixed it in with my favorite classic or I play tracks with 2 or more genres of Underground Dance music. I used to create a playlist and follow it and I do on occasion but mostly I will start a track and allow the music to guide me throughout my show. I love being free and organic. I stop caring about how many ppl see or chat but when someone does check out my stream, I let them know and keep my same fun and energy during my set. I see a number of small DJ channels like mine don't put in the work and that's why they don't grow. Trust me I have been there. I am still growing but I have also been improving how I play to engage ppl who are checking out my show.

I've been following you for a decently long time now but I have always somewhat failed in taking your advice. And the biggest reason is that I am scared of failure. I'm scared of doing a challenge and ending up failing, i'm scared of setting up a cool stream and something not working. Part of that is because I take your advice too literal. It always sounds so grand planning out a stream with an introduction, challenge and goal. And even if I somehow managed to do this in the past, I always ended up regretting it, deleting the VOD and cancelling my editing of said VOD. All of this tends to lead me to demotivation and unlearning pretty much everything I learned from your videos and rewatching my own VODs. But I'm gonna kick that damn anxiety in the butt. It's hard to accept for me that things can fail but I've been working hard on rewiring that mindset. I wanna thank you for putting out so many quality videos, helping out Creators like me for a damn long time now. If I make it in the future or not, I'll tell everyone in the retirement home about you helping my Streams before i'm escorted out of the Bingo session for the 5th time that week for my delusional ramblings.

Finally acted upon your tip of editing down a stream into an actual video and for my first attempt I think it went well!
Planning another stream like that for around Christmas time (because school is stressful and I barely have free time 😭)
BUT this video is making me consider starting with editing streams into shorts instead and then gradually working towards full time videos

Appreciate the vids eljay, keep up the great work 🙏🏽

These are really helpful to watch, even if I do the things in them wrong or nothing happens right away when I do them correctly, it gives such a confidence boost when I have access to in depth tips like these!
(Also, been using epidemic sound for a bit and it’s definitely worth it if you’re concerned about getting copystriked, it’s easy to navigate and has a pretty decent selection of playlists that are ready to go)

I dont exactly have any goals other than to grow my channel. When it comes to streaming, all I wanna do is play games and entertain my audience while telling a story about said game. :)

Your videos are so helpful. I’m an art streamer so some times the tips don’t really pertain to me but the ‘feel’ of them is there and it’s great. I would love to see tips for art streamers or more niche streamers so that we can grow too 😭
