The issues with the CVTs were directly caused by bad manufacturing. Nissan wasn't manufacturing the CVTs at the time, and they had to recall those to change them. Most people don't trust waranties, so they will just deal with having a bad transmission instead of changing it for free. My dad had a 2016 altima and he had an issue with the trans, they went and called every mechanic in the place to try out the car since they had never seen a bad transmission before at the time. Since then, they tracked the issue and now, chances are, if your altima had a transmission changed, it will propably run for more than 200 000 kms before you get any problems with it. I trust these cars, my family had trusted three generations with nissan and no problems occured.

The big difference is that WE know how to take care of a car. Some people don't and think that altimas are cheaper versions of Toyota Camry's. Which is not the case. Toyota has a reputation to make cars that can be beaten up to death and never die. Don't make that error with nissan or think you can do that with any other manufacturer.
