dear Sir: Recently a papyrus was recognized to show Archimedes proof that the volume of a spere was the volume of a cylinder of the same radius (and height) and the volume of a cone, : ditto. It was under the writings of some monks in the 12th century or so. They had erased the original text, but it was recoverable using differing wavelenghts of light (A palimpsest) The PBS show said the proof seemed to suggest Archimèdes used integral calculus.
