I am Encephalitis survivor … My GP trained to be a neurosurgeon… I’ve had tremendous support from him over the years and because of his help I am able to live fairly independently in my own home… He explained to me that the brain is the most complex and interesting organ in one’s body

My mom and family members have many brain problems such as epilepsy, and I have seen what those can do to a family as it has torn mine apart, so for years I’ve wanted to be a neurosurgeon to help families like mine so they don’t end up badly and I want to save people. I’m not in this for the money as it is a nice bonus but I want to help people and I will work my hardest to achieve my goal no matter the cost and amount of dedication and hard work. I appreciate all the videos you have made on this topic. Thank you

In the US, it takes 15 years to become a neurosurgeon. 4 years of undergraduate education, 4 years of medical school and 7 years of Neurosurgery residency and one or more years of fellowship if desired adds more time in.

I’m a medical student and I want to become a neurosurgeon. But in the country I find myself nobody has ever reached to that level due to many reasons, one of which is a developing country. So as a neurosurgeon, what is your advice towards me and my so desire path.
I am really looking forward to hearing from you.

When do you suggest is the best time to start building a good application for neurosurgery, would you say during medical school?

Keenan - in answer to your question about where does most of the medical work come from, it's really mixed I'd say.

My work tends to be around patient engagement and staff training/education and outreach, but some medical artists work 1:1 with surgeons doing surgical sequences; others are hired by NHS departments to do all visual comms for that hospital; others do textbooks and there's growing group of artists working entirely in 3D/app generated work. It's shifted and evolved a lot in the last decade as tech has leapt forward. It's a really exciting area of work to be part of, as you can work in collaboration with fascinating teams. Thanks for your question!

What would you recommend doing as a medical student to boost my CV with a view to neurosurgery? What sort of things did you do?

As a neurosurgeon, don't you think the 8-13 year long process puts many people off?

And apart from neurosurgery, is there any other speciality that you would've liked to go into instead?

That is a wonderful well prepared, well illustrated video, subscribed already and liked the video. Could you do a video about the CESR pathway, which is more plausable to do for imgs. Thank you...
