To all aspiring Neurosurgeons:

I recommend reading Do No Harm by Henry Marsh.

I’ve seen a team of neurosurgeons once from a distance. They look tried with dark bags underneath their eyes but all of them were laughing and looking so proud.

Please don’t ever stop doing these. They help so much I’m looking forward to seeing you cover many more (hopefully all) specialities

A general surgeon mentioned this to me:
If you ever feel down about your work, talk to a neurosurgeon to cheer yourself up

I’m a junior in high school and when I was a freshman I’ve always wanted to be a neurosurgeon, however I now want to be an anesthesiologist now 😅. To those who are pursuing neurosurgery good luck, don’t give up, and god speed you are one of the smartest and dedicated people ever

The good news is that when you finish your neurosurgery residency, if you decide to not practice you'll be old enough to draw Medicare.

As a neurosurgeon in the US, I would say this a great and very informative video. The only criticism I have is that you keep mentioning the surgeries are crude and less precise. I also did plastic surgery rotations as well as rotations in various other surgical subspecialties as a med student and I chose neurosurgery for the technical nuances of the surgeries. Micro vascular decompressions, skull base surgeries as you mentioned, surgical ligation of aneurysms, av fistulas, endoscopic surgeries, intramedullary spinal cord lesions, endovascular procedures (pipeline stents, selective embolizations, thrombectomies, )duroplastys, cerebral bypasses(ever see 10-mm prolene sutures used to anastamose vessels 2mm in size)? Even XLIF approaches for the spine with small working corridors are much more nuanced than most surgical procedures. DBS, stereoEEG placement (2-3mm off target can make a huge clinical difference in outcomes). Corpus callosotimes, selective amygdalohippocampectomies, functional hemispherectomties... the list goes on and on. The big difference in neurosurgery is that if you make a mistake, the stakes are much higher: you can cause a stroke leading to aphasia, plegia, blindness, coma and death. Hit the spinal cord during surgery and your patient will never walk again. The stakes are much higher. I’m not sure where you did your neurosurgery rotation but your exposure must have been very limited. to say it’s crude or imprecise in any way is an injustice to the field. Nonetheless I think your video is very informative and insightful. You guys did a great job. I will definitely recommend it to any medical student who is considering the field.

Thanks for this video. My heart is caught between choosing neurosurgery or cardio-thoracic surgery. Now, I get to know more about neurosurgery and I think I'm clinging more to it.

The rewards of a neurosurgeon having success with patients is just amazing. I'd love to be a Neurosurgeon but I really want to start a family after Med School. Life is short and I'm trying to make the most of it. :(

You should definitely make a video
on, “So do you want to be an Oncologist?” I think this is a field many people don’t talk about however many are interested on it. I would greatly appreciate it.
Ps: Great and really informative video, thank you!!!
