The American Psychological Association (APA) I am Psyched! for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex (LGBTQI) Pride Month event was held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, 1-3 p.m. in the Spire at APA headquarters. APA honored prominent women psychologists who identify themselves as LGBTQI, and who have broken barriers in their respective professional careers.

I am Psyched! for LGBTQI Pride Month is the fourth event in our 2018 I am Psyched! Heritage and Awareness Month series honoring eminent women of color psychologists.

The I am Psyched! for LGBTQI Pride Month event was sponsored by the American Psychological Association’s Women’s Programs Office and the APA Office on Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity.

Our honorees shared what inspires them about psychology and reflect on challenges they have faced and how they have overcome them, what led them to pursue psychology as a career, and how they have used their training as psychologists to engage in positive social change. The afternoon of discussion educated and elevated visitors as we celebrated the first women psychologists to be recognized with the Society for the Psychology of Sexual Orientation and Gender Diversity Award for Distinguished Contribution to Ethnic Minority Issues and the lasting impact they have had on society.
