Respectfully, I think that this comparison is not fair. This is like comparing a Nissan Altima to a Porsche GT4RS. The Air is not made for these tasks and doing them actually persuades people to waste money on laptops that they really don’t need. I think that the real tests should be a RAM test, reaction test, battery test, etc… not stress tests. I still appreciate these kinds of videos and enjoy them but this was not that fair of a comparison.

Don’t worry folks the channel will out put another video in like a week saying “WE WERE ALL WRONG! The M3 MacBook Air is AMAZING!!!” Just like every other cycle of videos from Max Tech. People fall for it every single time lol

Guys we love your videos and how professionally you compare things! I don’t think these click bait titles to make us watch them!

Over 3 years later the M1 Air is still a beast. Goated laptop.

Ok it thermally heats up and throttles during testing. How does it work just watching YouTube and reading email, normal stuff.

Why no one is doing real life tests? Working with 30-50 tabs open, multitasking between few chrome users etc..

Not too shabby. But I honestly thought 3nm would have even higher impact on thermal. Maybe they just keep riding on the edge of what’s acceptable in terms of clock speed and throttling, in search of the highest possible performance. All in all, not bad though! The most important test would be whether you notice the throttling or not, in different scenarios.

Apple should be boycotted until they give us 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB SSD at the base level, and charges reasonable prices for upgrades. Dell and Lenovo for example, charge 2x markup on SSD and RAM upgrades, I'm sure Apple can do 2.5x or 3x and get away with it, but 6x is too much.

Everyone buy the older models second hand if you can to show Apple we do not approve of price gouging!

8gb RAM is a joke. 16gb of RAM should be the minimum!!

To be expected for a passively cooled laptop. It's not made for sustained pro workflows but for regular people with regular workloads.
On the other hand it's dead quiet with no moving parts inside. Which also means it won't clog up with dust over its lifetime.

Guys, does it damage my mac air m3? I play simple games like minecraft and it is always overheating. Is it dangerous for battery? Or something else? Thanks dor the answers!

Remember battery saver mode!

With the M3 releases is november you realized later on that with it enabled you get most of the performance with way less heat and power.

looks to me like same is happening here

Compare the Macbook Air 15 M2 vs Macbook Air 15 M3

I am still running my late Mabook pro 15 in retina late 2013 and for browsing, excel light use, Lightroom light use is still performing well. I am thinking to switch to MacBook Air m3 because no matter what will be thousands times better than mine which is still “fine” for light / casual use - that to me is the real test for casual users (not professionals). :)

The air is still amazing despite all this. Even with decreased performance its still stupid fast in everyday tasks and real life software and it has no fan with a slim chassis.

I’d love to hear how the M1 Pro 16 gb holds up against the M3 air!

At the 7'25'' mark, it's somewhat misleading to call it a "33% difference." It would more appropriate to state that the thermal throttling is causing a 25% drop in the performance measure.

I have been editing exclusively with my 15" M2 16GB 512GB Macbook Air since it came out and it has been fantastic! I run Davinci Resolve and my edit in 4k 30fps H.265 and the system handles is perfectly well. Especially when compared to my Intel Macbook Pro. I am super glad that I did not wait any longer to buy a computer because this sytem is absolutely incredible. if it just had USB c on the Right side, I would be VERY happy. Thanks for the videos!

Yeah, I get it. "What was Apple Thinking?!". You have to sensationalize to get clicks. But there's really no surprise here. The actively cooled M3 sustains its performance, while the passively cooled machine has to be throttled to not overheat. But the performance numbers speak for themselves. 92% CPU performance left even after throttling, and 67% GPU performance left. I think is is even better than an actively cooled M1. This is a very powerful notebook, even when throttled. So to answer your question: Apple was thinking the right thing. This machine is awesome. I ordered one.

Now the test that will be really interesting will be the comparison between similar machines with M2 and M3. Because the single biggest change made was the shrinking of the CPU from 5nm to 3nm. So the M3 should be capable of either using much less power at the same performance level, or a higher performance at the same energy draw. Only question is, how much real life improvement will we see? Looking forward to THIS test.
