Ultrasound detected 5mm stone on my left kidney. Had CT scan and the doctor couldn't find anything. Why is there such inconsistency between CT scans and ultrasound?

I had a ultrasound to find if I have kidney stones. Left side has a 6 mm stone. Right side showed nothing. Couple days later I pass a stone from my right side. Can't find them all using ultrasound. Update. I had a CT and they found like 6 more that the ultrasound didn't find. Plus i passed stones that CT didn't find either.
