I had a school friend who had this procedure. She’s a real fighter, the cancer returned and she beat it again!

I met somebody who had this procedure done. He wore a prosthetic most of the time but one time he took it off in the middle of class and everybody was mind blown. He showed off his wiggly backwards toes and I think he enjoyed all the questions we had for him. 😂 Cool guy, he went through a lot of hardships in his life but had a really great personality.

Ok, I'm glad you explained why they keep the rest of the foot, as I never knew it could function as a knee. I was always like "I mean at that point just remove the foot". But it's super cool how procedures like that, while weird initially, can be turned into something very helpful

All jokes aside the fact that this surgery is possible is a modern medical miracle. The amount of precision it takes to not only keep the vein and artery but also the NERVE intact. Not to mention the quality of life difference for patients who now have the option to have a functional knee joint, AND being able to put weight on an ankle inside that prosthetic instead of a stump. Decreased pain, increased mobility and independence. That's amazing.
