This sounds weird but whenever your dad speaks cantonese, it reminds me of my childhood when i used to to live w my chinese dad and grandparents. I don't understand cantonese every well, but the language (and how he speaks) is just so nostalgic for me. My grandparents passed away a few years ago, so ur videos make me miss them every much.

Omg, it's cool and nostalgic to hear someone call instant noodles 公仔麵, since everyone uses "ramen" for every instant noodle out there. Yeah, we weren't allowed to have instant noodles very often, but when we did, we always added leftover meat and fresh veg to it. And egg. I remember the packaging of the one that was popular. It was orange and red packaging, maybe with stripes, with a chicken on it. I've yet to find a picture of it on the internet, so I don't think it's made anymore, and I haven't seen it in the Asian markets, either. Or maybe they changed the packaging. These days, I tend to buy Korean ramyeon because I like the thicker noodles, and use only a fraction of the flavor packet. I try to use whatever broth I have on hand, or I use Japanese soup base (hontsuyu or mentsuyu), since I like the taste of it, and I always have a bottle on hand for Japanese noodle dishes.

Your dad giving you his extra noodles when your bowl was empty reminds me of my mom always spooning over her left over mashed potatoes when I was a kid. Same with him feeding you the shrimp! I'm 27 and my mom still tries to feed me when we grab lunch or dinner.
