Watched an interview with a famous perfumer (don’t remember who) and he was asked about “don’t rub your wrists together” advice. He said that this is a myth. First, you can’t “damage molecules” this way. Second, if you could, the physical act of spraying through an atomizer would put far more stress on the molecules than rubbing wrists.

He also said that they had researched the advantage of pulse points, and found it to be a myth, also. Pulse points are often recommended because the blood is closer to the skin so the skin is warmer at these locations. They studied this and found no measurable difference in temperature between pulse points and other skin locations

Unmentioned Myth: you should smell coffee beans to ‘clear your olfactory palette’ when smelling multiple fragrances. When I went to Fragonard’s museum in Paris, they said just smell yourself- like the inside of your shirt/chest area. They said actual ‘noses’ don’t use coffee beans in the creation process.

As a trademark lawyer myself, I must say, you do a great job breaking down how to spot counterfeit sellers and discussing the grey market and considerations to make before purchasing online. Great video!!

When I was young, I'd leave my cologne in my car all year, so I could apply when I get somewhere. The summers here reach as high as 110° and winters in the 30°'s. Definitely don't do that anymore.

I buy testers for the simple fact that it’s more
cost-effective. even if there’s a slight chance that it’s stronger I’m all the way on board.

15:39 thank you for answering this! I'm newer to the fragrance world and I've seen almost everyone talk about performance and how long they last and the general range always seems to be 6 hours at the lowest and like 12 hours at the longest but I've sprayed shirts or jackets and days later they still have the scent. I was like am I missing something or misunderstanding what they mean? This clarifies that wonder I've mine that I've had for the past few months!

When a fragrance comes out if it gets reformulated they don’t use a new tester so sometimes testers are actually stronger if they were of the old batches, testers are used air gets in the bottle if it is sprayed from time to time alcohol will slowly evaporate leaving a more concentrated fragrance ect so yeah testers are usually better because testers are usually old batches my local store has 2019 eros the testers are 2013

At Department stores located in the US, testers and samples come from a initial batch or a separate batch during the rollout phase. The point is to get them in the hands of the sales people in advance to encourage sales during the initial rollout or presale. Sometimes there are variantS between batches. Also, as an effort to appease consumers and have a more impactful rollout, venders will make changes to the formulas based on early test groups and feedback. I know of one major launch, where the initial feedback was it was way to strong for the mass market. The next batches were much lighter. The venders or reps will then come by and switch out the old testers with the new or they’ll leave it in the hands of the store to dispose (which almost always is given out to associates). Sometimes, these samples are never picked up, and the sales people continue to give them out to customers.

myth 1: I mean what can be different is that the tester might be an older formulation compared to the products on sale... That could result in slight differences in performance or scent profile...

I'm sure the "spray it in the air & walk through it" idea is a relic of pre-1990's fragrances. So many were strong enough for that to be the only way to wear them with any subtlety.

Here is the issue with Testers. When you go to a retailer and sample off a tester bottle, if the fragrance you are purchasing has been reformulated, chances are, the retailer will still have a tester with the original batch on the counter. Even the 1ml samples they have behind the counter could be old samples from the original batch. The only way to really know is to do your research before you buy and not rely solely on the tester. In terms of buying a tester, if the fragrance has been around for a while, I rather purchase a tester as their is a chance you could be purchasing an original or older batch.

Has anyone else been kicked out of Sephora for carrying clones inside so you can judge how accurate they are? 😂

all samples and tester I have ever had smells way more potent than the actual non-testers purchased... maybe its a case where the testers sometimes are slightly used and the fragrance somewhat oxidizes and has a better punch. Thats been my experience.

Sometimes when you think it’s fake.
It may be old, wrong storage, made in another country under license, your body is not compatible, and other reasons.

I know a sales associate in a major department store who takes testers home and sells them on eBay!! Many do the same with sample vials too. So many times I’m in a store and ask for some samples and they say “We’re all out” lol So many find their way home with them and end up on eBay! Truth!!

Great video. Perfect example of performance point u made. Polo green is an EDT and I get 10 to 12 hours EASY. Whereas The One EDP only gets me 4 to 6 tops

Testers might be of the previous formulation and the new ones might be reformulated i guess, that why people think testers are stronger than their retail counter parts
