Loved it...There is also a funny old extra on the DVD of Glengarry Glen Ross that shows a guy in the 60s describing the difference between crystal and glass and he did the ring test..

From what I was able to gather, you’re mostly correct. However, to further confuse the issue, many crystal makers have discontinued the use of lead, which is one reason for its better disperse of power, which is one thing that’s responsible for the rainbow prism. The lead content in the Crystal is also responsible for the glass being significantly heavier, and having the aforementioned ringing sound. Also, you might be interested to know that many crystal makers have substituted other metal oxides, such as berry a more zinc oxide, to take the place of the lead. But these metal oxides are considerably lighter. In fact, it wouldn’t be allowed to be labeled as Crystal by the European Union, but here in the states, things are a lot more lenient. But in the European Union, it has to either be labeled crystalline, or crystal glass.

Great video - and love the tattoo. Excellent information. Also, high lead oxide content cut glass crystal has clarity as regular glass is somewhat opaque. Cut glass has much sharper detail than pressed glass. At flea markets and yard sales, I find that people do not know what they are selling. Many times, they are selling Grand Mother's American Brillian Period cut leaded glass (inherited from their mother) for a very low price.

Good information! I just bought some whiskey glasses and decanter from a resale shop and I'm convinced it's all crystal. I got a sweet bargain too!

Good tips and spot on! FACT: Crystal is so much heavier than regular glass (aka soda-lime glass) because of its 24% (or greater) lead content.
