I disagree with the idea that smiling in death is a D tribe thing. That's not their unique feature, but it has another symbolic value. Hiriluk said that a person dies when they are forgotten, and he died with a smile (btw, he wasn't a D). Hiriluk smiled because HE DIDN'T DIE—his will was passed on.
That's the meaning behind facing death with a smile: if your will is passed down to others, you won't truly die. (Bell-mère’s will passed to Nami, Hiriluk’s to Chopper, and Oden’s to Akazaya)
In contrast, Norland died in regret and tears because no one believed him. He thought his will wouldn't be passed on

My only issue with this is to say lineage of an evil man is also evil. I do not like this, especially when Oda spent so much time saying in the story, a kid shouldn’t be considered evil just because his ancestor was. This also takes away the individuality of someone. Just because one person is selfish, his lineage shouldn’t be judged.

Small correction: Not all the D's were special people. Just some of them. I mean Law's parents clearly weren't exceptional people and Portgas D Rouge wasn't exactly some Super Woman who fought the Government.

I think the D people being a found family also makes a parallel to Luffy, Ace, and Sabo being sworn brothers. They are not blood related at all, just like how you described Joyboy's crew.
