Which one was better!?

Can we agree that telling a story with a point is WAAY more influential than just telling someone the point immediately?

Remember storytelling is the most influential form of communication.

his voice changed in the second half too, and that’s part of why the gesture helps: it’s not just for your audience, you yourself _feel_ the emotion and emote more as a result

Love this bit. If I might add.

'Hand gestures should complement your speech, not overshadow it.'

You're inarguably good, normally with these sort of guys like people reading body movement I thought it was all nonsense, but your approach is so practical and direct that its impossible to deny how good it is.

I’m an autistic adult, both parents autistic and scientists one with a formal autism dx like me. Both speak this way - with few hand gestures. One is a leading professor of astrophysics who collaborates with the greatests minds — he never needed “hand gestures” to become a great scientist and collaborate with others on projects and work for NASA.
Same with my mother.

I never had hand gestures and spoke fairly monotone since childhood - I was bullied in childhood for being different even though I knew not what made me different apart from being a nerd not interested in social interaction.

As autistic people we do not need hand gestures - I enjoy listening to lectures or ted talks with little body language present. When humans use a lot of hand gestures my connotation is “Life Coach” “Corporation Marketing” “MLM cosch” “Struggling small business owner”, “Charity Ball Speech” vibes.

Stage hand gestures like in the video strike me as artifice / comtrived / possibly manipulative / inauthentic / “corporate unified-genre-body-language.

I most enjoy watching /listening to lectures by brilliant academic who also - what is noticable - do not make a “show” of theatrical hand gestures in fact the content of their words and NARRATION is in itself engaging.

So maybe, just let people who NATURALLY use hand gestures and body language “do their thing” and not shame or pressure other people to move their arms and hands around to “appear” in one way or the other?
Standing naturally not tense is PERFECTLY FINE without feigning hang gesture choreography.

There is also something condescening and paternalistic about “training adults” to mimic a narrow Corporate hand gesture body language genre which is NOT USED EG BY MOST ACCOMPLISHED: Scientists, Architectd, Scholars, Writers, Academics, Medical Researchers, IT gurus, Engineers, Artists.

I work a remote job talking to students all day and I gesture with my hands the whole time even though no one can see me. Haha

I do hand gestures everytime I talk or trying to express unconsciously until my one colleague confront me about it. I felt self conscious about and I realized it's a good thing I guess 😅

Yes, it’s better than standing there with your arms by your side, but honestly, I think it would’ve been more powerful with even a little less. But because of you, and my own noticing of stage actors and movie actors that they actually rarely use their hands to talk, sometimes that’s the only feedback that I give on a video. I’ll tell someone your message is going to be much better if you stop waving your hands in front of the camera, especially when it’s just mostly their torso.

He might be right, but he is a bad model (towards being right). There's much more than just hand gestures

Curious what happens if your arms are disabled or injured

You are not so excited though 😂 probably do it all the time. How could one remain excited? You sound like you are trying to act excited.
I find speakers who fake so much like this really irritating. It's just a bit over the top. Somewhere in the middle is good.

This is great but please don’t make hand gestures like Kamala Harris.

Careful with the head motions, though. Too much of it and you come across looking like you are talking to kindergarteners.
