So what PSU do you really need for the RTX 3070?

Hi, I'm by no way an expert, but I have hands-on experience with building systems and selecting power supplies. My video shows power consumption figures and these are not necessarily the power draw numbers. They are not exclusively 1:1, but that said, they are not wide apart. My advice is generally to add 15-20% onto your system power draw to allow for system growth and to nullify system power spikes.
Tip: Find the TDP of your current card and if it's 220w or less then your PSU will be fine.
In the case of the 3070, people have reported that a 500w 80+ bronze unit has proven to work well with a 3600 & 3070 @ stock. Now this is fine if it's what you have, but I would suggest going for a 550w+ gold unit if you're buying new. All the better to go 650w+ if you can. I know that PSUs are expensive at the moment but so are your CPU and GPU.
Good luck with your building and hopefully you get a card at MSRP :)

Hi there,
Nvidia suggest that a 650w PSU is required, but may work with a lower wattage unit. What is the reality?
We test two systems 1) a Ryzen 5 3600 & 2) a Ryzen 9 3900X for power consumption.
If using a 500w 80+ bronze unit you may run into issues with spikes, but I think a 550w 80+ gold good quality unit and above should be fine.
Check out the below calculators if you're unsure.

Remember that PC parts are expensive so look after them with a good quality PSU and not a random no name brand.
