One of the hardest parts of being in the hobby: getting better at teaching. Thanks for this!

My #1: *Actually* know the rules (rather than just kinda) before trying to teach, especially when the game is new to me too.

It's easy take shortcuts when reading the rulebook or to watch a 5 minute video and think "I know Kung Fu!" and then find out that I have a bunch of gaps as I try to explain it.

Thank you for such an essential video! I’ve watched other ‘how to teach board games’ videos, however yours was so clear and concise on how to actually implement the ideas, I see it being put to use with the next game I (try) to teach my family.
(And I noticed from another comment/reply that you teach music. Wonderful! My wife and I are both professional musicians - I mainly perform and she teaches full-time :)

Wish I watched watched this before teaching a game today! I feel pretty silly to have not giving my sister and her boyfriend the rulebook for Black Plague to have the reference guide. Can't believe I didn't think of that! The hourglass is great, some structure to the teach is very useful.
Thanks for another informative video :)

Another problem I don’t have playing solo. I taught quite some board games but it’s always pretty intense checking if everyone is following.

and for teaching viticulture EE I just couldn’t figure out how to teach it, so when the day came I had them stand around me sitting at the table, demoing a solo play against the automa and before I started the second year they grabbed it from my hands and judging from what followed that was a stunning success.

Great video. I really like the hour glass concept. I do notice I try and cover absolutely everything when teaching a game and it takes me far too long to go over it all. I'm sure the other players think, " What is he talking about" 😀. I'll try the hour glass next time. Now to find someone who wants to play a game. I don't have a game group and I never dare ask our friends if they want to try a board game as I think they'll look at me gone out..Thanks.

I’m going to try to work in a game cafe teaching games, even in fear of the dreaded “Can we just start?”

Really helpful I turned to solo just because I hate teaching rules so this might help
