A Kid with Skin Growing Too Fast (Harlequin Ichthyosis)

Harper is diagnosed with harlequin ichthyosis and her skin grows about 10x faster than normal. Her favorite thing to do is to tell jokes and laugh. Harper wants others to know that to be her friend all you have to do is say "hi".

Wow, that kid has one of the best attitudes I’ve ever seen. I think it’s impossible to know how we’d deal with a condition like that but I’m willing to bet anything she’d do better than I ever would. Honestly, she’s a great role model for the rest of us.

Harper actually has another condition that wasn't discussed in this interview...
It's called "Contagious Laughter", and when an individual with CL laughs, everyone who hears it begins to laugh as well. I've been a nurse for over 20 years now, and without a doubt I can say that Harper's is the most severe case I've ever seen. 😉

What a gorgeous little one. Her skin, reminds me of a beautiful rose, that lovely deep pink, shading to red. She's just utterly adorable, and her eyes, shine with happiness and a good heart. As someone with disabilities from childhood, and an entire family who have similar issues, I greatly appreciate what you do, Chris. It shouldn't be needed... but it very much is. This makes me smile so very much, especially on the days when being in bed is my only option. Bless you, Harper, you're inspiring nearly a hundred thousand people already... after only three days!

My mother, has a saying: "we go through life, bearing what we can. And it makes us better people, in the end." Harper, is not only bearing with it, she's thriving. And that... makes me so damn happy to see.
