I'm not and have never been interested in plastic surgery but this channel still fascinates me: the conversations about plastic surgery are really about the psychology of self-perception, the transience of social trends and cultural standards of beauty, the contradiction between society's obsession with superficial beauty and negative judgement towards plastic surgery etc.

Really appreciate this cross over. I feel like Lori’s education and research is often under-credited because she isn’t a licensed surgeon.

Dr. Gary, I really appreciate how you meet Lorry as your equal despite being a licensed surgeon. You value her knowledge and it shows. Great conversation!

I LOVE Lorry Hill's content. She'd be way more popular on Youtube if Doja Cat didn't start a hate campaign against her.

Thank you Dr. Gary for mentioning the issue of access—there’s no easy answer, but economic inequality is, and should be, part of the conversation; it speaks to your integrity that you are willing to discuss it.

I wish ppl who gets these procedures talk about revisions, touch ups, scar treatments, scar camouflage and longevity/deterioration of these procedures over time.

I think that too many young people are getting plastic surgery when it's really not necessary. I also think that too many people end up looking unnatural. If someone is in their 20's and wants a rhinoplasty because they have a bump on their nose that they hate, I can understand that. Filler is something I have issues with especially when someone is young.

It's a challenging discussion. Naturally, I think normalising plastic surgery strengthens strict beauty standards. Aesthetics and wellness often merge in society, which leads to conflating morality and beauty too. If plastic surgery ever becomes more mainstream, will those who don't get it be seen not to be "looking after themselves" and therefore viewed as morally inferior? Will only the poorest be deemed ugly? Will we see more backstreet surgeries? I'm not sure the benefits outweight the risks for most depending on how invasive the procedures are

I’m happy to hear you guys talk about dysmorphia! Nowadays, it’s so common to hear the general public dismissing it like it’s not an illness, but it is. “Helping” them with surgery would really be hurting them. Love the commentary!

I completely agree with Lorry, it should be part of bedside manner to go over a brief discussion of the risks, what they mean and if it's ever happened with you and how you'd support them. I don't feel like the argument of 'it would take hours' or 'it would scare them away to someone else' is as valid, because there is always a way to word and speak about these things so it registers with the patient, without causing panic for them. I think it's a moral obligation.
