Awesome video, I had trouble switching sides on the handle on my first direct drive reel. I was making the mistake of not holding down the rotor, which was not allowing the handle to screw on tight, making the handle to spin the wrong way and become loose.

I am old enough to remember when spinning reels were not convertible. They came in right handed (left side crank) and left handed (right side crank) models. If you wanted a right side crank, this was a pain. Stores often did not stock the left handed models, as they were slow sellers. Frequently you would have to have the store special order the reel if you wanted the crank on the right side.

I recently bought a Daiwa Free Swimmer BR 10000 and it came with the handle on the right side and I have not been able to swap it to the left side. It looks just like your direct drive reel here. IDK if I am not doing it right or if it is messed up or if it is not swappable

I just bought a reel I cannot swap from a side to another, its weird because it doesnt say a specific side on the packaging or instructions, and there is no rubber spacer to adjust from a side to another, its the quantum escalade size 25, ive been looking for a whole to find a rubber spacer or any solution to my problem because I cannot return the reel and I really want to be able to use it.

Thanks for making this video for us, something that's obvious to some but bothering for others! Didn't know you need to also remove the rubber seal too on the Fuego. Thanks again!

Just received certate 19 but I see some space between that black rubber gasket / couple between handle and body?? Is it supposed to go in all the way ? Ughh, it's tight, but why is there a very slight space I still see the silver ....

What do you do when the threaded cap/bolt on a reel that you bought, when you try reeling, the bolt keeps screwing itself down until the handle won’t work any more?
I tried taking the handle off my current reel to check for size and that kept happening. I’ve bought some replacement handles so I’m hoping I can get the reel fixed up for a spare.

(rod reel combo on discount because the handle is gone. 80 dollar rod for 34! 🤩)

On the Daiwa BG 2500 and BG 3000, the handle and the main shaft thread connection has only about 4 fine pitch threds, not strong at all, did you guys had any issues with this ? Thanks.

I just got a D.A.M. Quick 3. I was putting some oil on some parts and now it’s only right hand retrieve. There is now a white gasket that only accepts the cap and not the handle.

I see that you first turn the threaded part backwards a bit, under light pressure, just before threading the part on. Good idea. Feeling the thread click means it's ready to thread it on, without damaging the fine threads. Maybe pointing this out to viewers (especially newbees) could save some gear, and frustration. Thanks.

Whats the point of having a reverse switch on a screw in type? Would it just loosen it?
