Back in the 70's a 4th grader who didn't answer all of those questions correctly would have been considered stupid, and these are all people from their mid teens to their mid 20's. What a disgrace!

🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ I started watching these with my 7 year old and ask him the questions and then we also go over the correct answer. Obviously, he hasn't learned all of this yet, but I promise to do my best to make sure he doesn't turn out like these kids. This is just embarrassing.

Many years ago I was selling fruit and veg at a market. At the end of the day I had just 1 box left when a young man came up and sail he would buy the box. I weghed the box and told him there were 271/2 lbs which at£1.80 per pound would cost £49.50. He stood there with his mouth open and asked how I could do that so fast without a calculator. The point is I am so old that at school we had no calculators so had to learn things like mental arithmetic. Today technology has made these methods redundant which is why so many kids seem unable to do simple sums

Dude...I homeschool and I know my 4th grader would answer ALL of these questions correctly. My 2nd grader would also get about 90% of these correct. Yikes people!!

I remember when back in the 70's, people were saying students didn't need to learn everything, it was enough to know how to find out. Back then I thought that was stupid, because "knowing how to find out" could mean owning an encyclopaedia, or just having a library ticket. Now it's enough to have a smartphone. But owning a Spanish dictionary doesn't mean you know the language! That's like having your file on a floppy disk in a drawer.

I saw the way things were going when shop assistants relied solely on the cash register to add up the bill and to work out the change. It was no longer necessary to have memorised multiplication tables. But how can you keep track of what you spend while shopping, or help work out a discount? You could use an electronic device, but everything would take you twice as long: like those interactive shoppers who tiptoe through the supermarket while whispering into a mobile phone.
