Great Q&A, one thing I’d like to add to the ‘How long can you keep a scape running for’ - it’s important to consider the lifespan of your tank. My tank at ~10 years, the silicone glue failed leaking water all over the floor (fortunately for my fish there was 1/3 water depth left). So I’d say have a plan for some major maintenance (e.g new tank or add extra silicon etc) at 8-9 year mark if you intend to have a lifelong scape. Obviously better tanks will last longer (mine was a Juewel brand so not the cheapest or most expensive).

Question for next time: how do I convince my wife that we really NEED 5th tank in our house?

Questions for future rounds: 1. The guideline for a planted tank is daily or every other day water change for two weeks. What should one look out for in order to dial down to a weekly or biweekly water change? 2. So newly set up high tech tanks at green aqua go through daily water change for first two weeks?

Hey Tommy, you can get rid of sillicates by upgrading your RO system to a reverse osmosis de ionization filter(RODI) similar to what we use for reef keeping. Love your channel, good job guys. Hello from south africa 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦

You actually can put Soil underneath sand if u put some fine filter mesh inbetween. I've been doing this in my last two scapes and it's been working pretty well. :)

Some questions quite funny but not difficult enough, show that most of green aqua fans are expert.

Thank you! I love Q & A.
I think you should make more videos about this topic...
Or you should write a book with all your knowledge and experiences in it.

Good stuff Tommy.
Reference how long a planted tank can run, I moved house a few years back, dismantled a 180 litre tank which had been up and running successfully with Watstad style substrate, CO2 injection, high intensity lighting and good filtration for just under 12 years. Bought a bigger tank for new house, partly because I stupidly scraped the glass - sand substrate got onto my magnetic scraper internal plate - with use of substrate supplements see no reason why a well maintained tank can't run for decades. No sand in my new tank!
