Catholic here -- He didn't say (probably he assumed the listener already knew), that the Missal contains all the Scripture passages (Old Testament, [Psalms], New Testament, [and Gospels] that are read and preached from every single day. Not just Sundays...
In the Church's 3-year cycle, roughly the entire Bible (minus the begetting and the wars) will be read allowed in worship.

In the pews of Catholic churches, instead of Bibles, you'll find what are called "missalettes, " which are basically mini-missals that contain the scripture readings for Sundays and Holy Days of obligation. The readings are broken up according to the three-year cycle and liturgical season (Ordinary Time, Lent, Easter, Advent, Christmas, etc.).

You need a much longer video on this and probably the Mass in general, Matt. Lots of misguided people in these comments here.

This is my life long parish, and it's good that this is on Youtube.

Allow me to add that the Didache (teachings of the apostles) is the first liturgical manual or Missal ever written (70AC) therefore, before the Bible was unified. Let me put Didaché 9:4-5: "As this broken bread was once scattered on the mountains, and after it had been brought together became one, so may thy Church be gathered together from the ends of the earth unto thy kingdom; for thine is the glory, and the power, through Jesus Christ, for ever.

9:5 And let none eat or drink of your Eucharist but such as have been baptized into the name of the Lord, for of a truth the Lord hath said concerning this, Give not that which is holy unto dogs."
The Didache uses the word sacrifice 4 times to refer to the Eucharist, once stating plainly that "this is the sacrifice that was spoken by the Lord." From the Didache we also learn that the usual day of the liturgy was "the Lord's day" and that it was customary to repent of one's sins before receiving the Eucharist: "On the Lord's own day gather yourselves together and break bread and give thanks, first confessing your transgressions, that your sacrifice may be pure."

It also has all of the Bible readings for each mass or each day if it’s a daily missal.

This reminds me of our hymnal. Songs, yes…but also scripture readings, liturgies, and prayers for all of our sacraments and services. Very cool, thank you.

The Roman Missal is the official book used by the Priest at the Catholic celebration of worship called the Holy Mass. It contains the proper order on how the Mass should be carried out, with all the relevant prayers for various occasions on the Catholic liturgical calendar.
The Readings at Mass are not in the Roman Missal. The Lectionary is the book of the full Readings from Scriptures which are read out at Mass.
The Missal for the Laity is a different book- this book contains the prayers for the Mass and the Readings for the relevant Mass for a particular occasion on each day.

The full liturgical process is in 4 books that size. The missal shown is the cliff notes for priest to use.

No Cap, I truly enjoy you informative videos and the respect you use for other people's opinions and beliefs even when they are in contrast to your own. Also, fyi, I like your hat collection.

P.S. Obviously, i'm testing to see if you have removed hat/cap from your list of banned words... I would never unironically use the phrase "No Cap". I'm not GEN Z enough. Keel up the good work!

Many traditional Protestant churches have missals - Lutherans, Anglicans, some Presbyterians.

That's an altar missal or sacramentary. It does not contain the readings for the Mass but the prayers for different masses. Readings can be found in the book that is called Lectionary. Hand missals contain both. In the Old Mass, the missal contains both the prayers and the readings. After Vatican II, this was changed.

I'd love to own one of these, but not sure as a Catholic laity I can. Prayers fascinate me. Add these are not cheap books.
