WE PAID OFF OVER $60K of DEBT in 3 YEARS! AND SO CAN YOU!

We had two incomes, a nice house in a great neighborhood, and two nice cars. We were living the dream, but then everything changed when JP started losing the ability to walk.

Two major spinal surgeries later and our income was down, but our debt was growing. Rather than take out a second mortgage, we decided to sell everything we own and move abroad to enjoy a higher quality life for a lower cost of living.

You may not realize it, but this is also an option for you! If you're drowning in debt or haven't been able to save enough for retirement, moving abroad may be the solution to your financial struggles.

It doesn't have to be forever, either. You can move to a lower cost country for a few years and then move back home. Although, we think you'll enjoy your new life so much that you won't want to!

For many, many reasons Ecuador is probably the best beginner-ex-pat country and it may be the only ex-pat country you need. The currency is the US dollar. The electricity is the same as US. They are in the same time-zone as East-Coast US. It is only a 6-hour flight to New York. While English is not the standard language, it is spoken and understood by many Ecuadorans. Spanish is a great second language and is spoken in many South and Central American countries - as well as other countries around the world.

Had a heart attack last March. Double bypass. I've been in Argentina for a month living on about $400 a month while I pay on debt in the States. So far so good.

I was a single mom following my divorce. My first spinal fusion was a year after a laminotomy I still hadn't paid for. That bankrupted me. Gradually I eeked my credit score back up over 700. Then I had another fusion, which bankrupted me again. My issue is degenerative so I was also on LTD. Your videos were one of the first resource I found about Ecuador.
I moved here 8 months ago. In Salinas since January. I started my Street Dog Rehab within 2 weeks and have rescued, trained, and found families for 5 so far. One became my second dog & an important social embassador for new dogs. I just found myself a new orthopedic doctor. The speed of being seen & low cost of health care here are amazing. I'd never have been able to be this impactful with animals in my US living situation.
Thanks for sharing so much of your journey. It helped me immensely. I intend to get a body camera to record the nitty gritty of what I do here. I hope my channel will help others, too, either with rescue or training their own challenging dogs. You're quite inspiring!

Great for you guys! So horrible how the US health care system ruins people's lives. Glad you found a better place. I'm 57 and ecuador just made the list for retirement options! Thanks!

One thing is for sure: to still be together after *everything* you have dealt with is a testament to the strength of the love you have for each other. 💪♥️

Your opinions about Ecuador are really inspiring and it's so comforting to see how expats think about my country...While some other people are trying to leave Ecuador to find an "American", "Canadian" or "European" dream, there are Americans, Canadians and Europeans who are thinking about moving to Ecuador....It's good to see you understand what is really important in life...and yeah....security, and some services could be something important to consider when deciding where to live, but Ecuador has not only the weather, the food, the sights and the affordable prices, but also the kind people that there still are despite all the corruption and the terrible governments....I just would like to thank you JP and Amelia for loving my country just as much as I do and for being really objective and true about its good things and bad things....No country is perfect....Big hugs for you two and I hope to run into you any time....🇪🇨♥️🇺🇸

Thank you for sharing your experience! It really brodens my mind. We in Ecuador complain about the prices of electronics or cars, which are HUGE. I am having real trouble to afford a car, even a used one, but we have the essential for living, water and very good organic food. Many times we wish we had something like Amazon, but we don't realize that we have THE AMAZON (rainforest) which is much more valuable!!! Thank again for sharing your experience!

Amelia and JP, Congratulations on your ESCAPE!! It is unfortunate but America has become increasingly worse. Inflation, crime and debt are all rising. Little by little the US is turning into a third world country and most Americans are brainwashed to believe the standard of living in the US is superior to other parts of the world. What happened to JP was not a curse but a blessing in disguise. The two of you are ahead of the herd. Others will soon follow. Kudos to this awesome channel. Cheers.

Amelia!! God Bless you for staying with your hubby when he needed you! A lot of people leave their spouses when the times get rough. My first wife died of Cancer, but when I took her to chemo, a lot of people at the chemo center would come to me and say it was nice to see a husband supporting his wife. I said, "why wouldn't I support my wife?"...they said, Most of their spouses left them for other women, or for men..and just left them with the health insurance to fend for themselves. That is why you are blessed with the quality of life you are leading now. Bless the both of you!!

Great!! Video guys! At 75, you are giving me glimmer of hope to move to Ecuador for my next chapter. Hate the thought of staying in US.

Here in NC, we are retired. However, we have family here; and despite the ugly politics, we have no plans to move. Although, Ecuador is near the top of our list of places to visit; right behind Norway. Anyway, you are absolutely right about being debt-free, no matter where you live. And, STAYING debt free. Barring an unforseen or catastrophic event, people can live long and happy lives. You can do it, we are doing it. Buena suerte!

Before we moved to Cuenca, we spent years visiting other countries with an eye toward retirement. Panama, Belize, Costa Rica, Colombia and Barcelona, Spain all checked out. First time we visited Cuenca (for like three days on a short trip) we were like, "yep, this is it." But after we quit our jobs we still wanted to be sure, so we spent a month in Bogota (with more visits to Medellin -- a very close second to Cuenca), then a month in Manta, then a month in Cuenca. After three weeks, my wife was sold and returned to the states to start getting ready. I finished out the month, the spent a week in Quito. We moved to Cuenca but kept our safety net, a condo on Cap Hill in Denver. This summer, we sold that :-) estamos Cuencanos ... I hope you get to visit those places. All lovely in their own way, but you'll see why we chose Ecuador.

Amazing story. Tough times - but these led to something better. So happy for you. Your story is inspiring and brings hope to the rest of us stuck in the hamster wheel.

Applaud the adjustment. Kudos to you both. When we were first married I realized we were not getting ahead. I read Your Money or Your Life and we cut our living expenses in 1/2 which included starting a large garden. We grow so many tomatoes that we canned, we were able to eat primarily enchiladas, spaghetti, etc. Being debt free is awesome, particularly when you were deeply in debt.

Your financial situation sounds like heaven. Our family of four has about a $5k monthly budget and that’s skimping. We have $90k in student loan debt and a mortgage. I just wish my husband was into the idea of moving to South America!

I haven’t driven in over 40 years. I always lived in places in the US where I didn’t need one. Cuenca is very walkable and I’m close to two Tranvia stops going either way.

I was one of those people that WISH we could do what you were doing. Your videos helped us make that decision. We bought our new construction in Ecuador back in February and are awaiting the completion. Thank You!!!
