How to Create a Unique ID or Primary Key Using IF and ROW Functions | Excel Tagalog Tutorial
Nowadays, creating a unique ID or primary key in Excel is relatively easy if you know how to use the Query editor or PowerQuery in Excel. However, if your current version does not support this or you don't have an idea on how to do this, you may find yourself thinking of doing this using a formula.
In this video, you will learn how to create your own primary key using the combination of several functions primarily the IF and ROW functions.
There are several formats that you can choose from to suit your requirement.
1. Incrementing number
Ex. 1, 2, 3, 4 etc.
2. Incrementing primary key (formatted as "000")
Ex. 001, 002, 003 etc.
3. Student number which is based on year and semester joined
Ex. 2020-1-000001, 2020-1-000002, 2020-1-000003 etc.
4. Varying client id depends on the destination
Ex. CAN001, CAN002, NEW001, NEW002, AUS001 etc.
