Well, the new Fedora-powered ThinkPad P53 laptop has spoiled me -- and this MIGHT be the end of my love affair with my System76 Oryx Pro. Here's a video about giving a Linux distro another chance, being totally spoiled by amazing hardware, and the beauty of combining nature with tech!

In Fedora, we tend to cover our laptops with open source project stickers. Fingerprint problem solved!

The image is a pure Fedora Workstation ISO. Lenovo is one of the big boys in the Workstation world, if they can push it to be more mainstream in the enterprise space, maybe there is hope for the Linux Desktop after all :)

About for years ago I bought a 2012 vintage Thinkpad T430 from a MS Certified refurbisher. It is an intensely good value, and looks very much like the current P53 you are reviewing. I opened it up to add a second 8Gb memory stick, and it was pristine clean inside. It still meets all of my needs away from my desktop. It's absorbed the kind of bumps that bricked two of my previous laptops. A chassis design well worth keeping.

Form follows function. I want a machine to get work done, not a trendy product. So this is really appealing to me. It is really insane how workstation grade hardware fits inside a little laptop case, given how big a workstation case normally is. Energy efficiency and heat generation would be two points I'm really interested in.

I agree ! Glad Lenovo did a great job here, especially with the fingerprint scanner. The P15 (P53 successor) will be available soon.

Sent from my P72.

Very exciting to see Lenovo do this. I will agree about the finger print mess on the exterior. My wife has an E570 with Mint 19.3 on it and Windows 10 (which she happily does not use) and the finish is looks so bad from handling it. But truthfully, it needs to work more than look pretty, but it can be embarrassing to see it that messy. Thanks for another great video Jason!

Leaving us with 16Core, 32Thread Tease, you're beyond evil! Thanks for the 'overview'. I wish they (Lenovo) had this Fedora powered T14 laptop!

I'll probably never get around to preferring a fingerprint, which is essentially just a super complex password that you cannot change, over regular passwords and security tokens, which you can change.

Finally - after waiting decades, cool and powerful Linux laptops are hitting the market (instead of dodgy bottom-of-the-barrel hardware, with Linux just thrown on as an afterthought). I've always purchased second-hand ThinkPads, but now could be a good time to dig deep and splurge on a P53 :)

I just never liked the Dell lines (their "Sputnik" offerings), and there's no System 76 where I am (I also wasn't too keen on the OEM laptops System 76 rolled with, for various reasons - mostly around the dGPU mux/muxless issues).

Thanks so much for this video!!
