Playing Valheim, but having an experience that lags, stutters and is generally unplayable? Well, it may be something out of your control -- but it could also be simple to fix issues that this video covers. By the end you should at least have higher FPS in-game, with a much smoother experience as well.

Launch Options: -window-mode exclusive -screen-fullscreen

At this point I get midly triggered when someone say: Update your graphics driver. I have NEVER had a noticeable improvement when doing that.

That exclusive full screen mode gave me an extra 10-15 fps! Thanks so much!

using the launch option in steam made the biggest difference for me, went from stuttering down to 50fps from 130fps to sitting comfortably at 120fps constantly. thank you!

Update; your fullscreen fix also fixed the many crashes.

LOD Bias in unity is a multiplier for the value used for the LOD data. I have no Idea why they are using 5, maybe they are using LODs for culling distant objects, as it seams when you raise the number the objects are rendered further away. By default the ultra quality settings in unity has a LOD Bias of 2, which makes LODs render twice the distance they normally would. They might be using a really near LOD culling and using LOD Bias for render distance.

Great video. Also got a kick out of 6:13 A.I. fire exploit claims yet another.

@5:14 LOD bias, in games, is usually concerning mesh complexity, not textures. LOD meshes are simplified, lower resolution versions of the meshes that are swapped out at a distance, where the complexity isn't really discernible. If it were a command concerning textures, it would be something like mipmapbias. Mipmaps are lower resolution versions of textures swapped out. Textures are usually baked with mipmaps to swap out when the detail of a full resolution would be lost at the distance it's being viewed at by the player.

People who whine about getting (only) 60 fps - "Omfg man i'm lagging so much."

Me who has a 630 gt graphics card and has to turn everything down the lowest it can go to even get an average of 5-15 fps and can't kill anything with a bow unless it stands still cause my mouse cannot literally react fast or smooth enough in the game in order to track things without huge skips - "This is a good day"

Adding the setting for full screen in steam settings helped lots. Turning off all those on the right of graphic settings helped to make everything more clear too or sharp. I can actually see the details of the black metal chests so much better. The movement and color of the grass and trees also have more detail with those settings off. For me Having Bloom off also clears the environment up. Thanks.

great video! the stuttering is the only thing killing the experience. it stutters every few seconds dropping a bunch of frames. My frames are usually at 90 but it sucks

Broooo thank you so much. Only video that actually worked. The full screen mode brought me from up from laggy frames to smooth!

I'd rather have a constant 30 fps than have 60 fps for 30 seconds followed by 3 fps for 10 seconds

I just bought the game, tried the usual by lowering all the in game settings, still running at mid 20s, tried these fixes and went from mid 20s, to mid 30s. I truly don't understand I have a GTX 3050, 16gb ram, intel i5 2.9ghz. I can play anything else I want with no issues. Spiderman, GTA V, Mafia remaster all run great, and look stunning, so what's the deal here?? I feel my pc is plenty to run this

I play on lowest settings, with all options turned off, and Valheim set to high priority. I average 8 FPS. I really want to enjoy this game, but holy fuck they need to optimize.
