''The freedom to dispose of raw sewage in rivers is a brexit benefit'' - Therese Coffey

I think the water bosses should be made to pay back their bonuses or else be prosecuted for mismanagement in failing to upgrade sewage treatment plants and build reservoirs.

Being essential public assets back under government ownership, basic essentials like water should never have been sold in the first place

Is this why my water bills are going to go up? Ofwat has proposed that bills should increase by an average of £19 per year between 2025 and 2030. That amounts to £94 over the period, a rise of 21%.

Let them fail and keep their debt. It wasnt there when they were gifted it all

Wales Welsh water not for profit Thomas. You get Railways public ownership Thomas in Kings Speech 17 July under British Labour government. They cannot disconnect Water from English people in England London Britain. It against the law. Awesome. Brilliant content. Customers get more consumer rights with water industry regulated.

It's a good start - but retrospective action is needed to claw back some of corruption lost money by these greedy boards who have pocketed so many millions from the public. Environmental destruction should be a criminally prosecutable act that everyone is held to, not just the poor.

Great news, about time they were held to account. The tories failed to do this in 14 years.

Missing from those proposals and also needed.

Where any infrastructure company is owned by webs of parent groups, that ownership must be fully published and transparent.

Management fees and other charges from parent groups or consultants appointed by them to be fully transparent and capped.

Personal liability (comparable with Health & Safety legislation) to be imposed on company senior management.

Company fines (comparable with Health & Safety legislation) to be based on a percentage of parent Group's GLOBAL TURNOVER for repeated breaches of things like sewage emissions.

Department of Environment to require massive improvements in quantity and quality of monitoring systems on rivers and beaches with mandatory monthly reporting of both summaries and the raw data.

Strict penalties on companies and personally on senior management for failure to obtain and maintain adequate coverage, or failure to report.

It is appalling how this has been allowed to happen

We don’t want compensation, we want water to be nationalised so that it is meeting these standards! Bring in regulations that means they cannot pay dividends, and offer shareholders a price to sell to the government, to encourage buy out. This would be expensive, but affordable in the long run because of the massive profit margins these companies enjoy. We all know nationalisation is feasible, and necessary, and there’s no excuse. We are all watching, and we are aware
