Several communities in British Columbia's Shuswap region are under threat from a sprawling wildfire that has already destroyed multiple homes. As Elissa Carpenter reports, residents in B.C.'s Interior are doing what they can to help each other, but the fire is shutting down some well-intended aid.

While emergency crews in B.C. are making progress fighting the wildfire threatening Kelowna, officials are beginning to assess the damage in West Kelowna. Richard Zussman looks at the severity of the structural losses and speaks with one evacuee who lost her home in the fire.

When Yellowknife residents were ordered to leave the city over a nearby wildfire, many evacuees took refuge in Behchokǫ̀, the nearest town by road to the capital of the Northwest Territories. But as Jeff Semple reports, the scramble to safety has separated families, leaving evacuees anxious and angry.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in Prince Edward Island for a retreat with his revamped cabinet, as the federal Liberals face criticism for rising affordability and housing costs. Mackenzie Gray looks at the pressure on Trudeau to revamp the government's economic policies as his numbers in the polls continue to slump.

Cleanup is underway in southern California after tropical storm Hilary soaked several cities, being the first such weather system to hit the state in over eight decades. Jackson Proskow reports on California's deluge, the earthquake which shook Los Angeles soon afterwards and the unexpected upside of the record-breaking rainfall.

Plus, a cargo ship is making headlines not for what it's carrying, but how it's being powered. The boat has been retrofitted with massive sails, intended to lower the emissions and costs of such voyages. Mike Armstrong explains how the project is trying to help shipping clean up its act.

Imagine having a truckload of relief supplies destined for a disaster area, only to be told to turn around because you don't have a permit.

Why would they turn the trucks with supplies around and not let them deliver

What a deal! Once again, from outside appearances, government seems way more interested in protecting it’s power than the people it serves. To stop a truck load of relief supplies because you are too lazy to establish boating corridors to keep them away from tankers seems criminal to me. I sure feel bad for these poor folks.

It's funny to watch Justin call out someone that is acting unfairly.

They had to evacuate 35, 000 people back in 2003. They promised faster response and better equipment. This time they waited quite a few days, and were ordered to not respond.

The fires aren't just in a larger cities like Kelowna. Report about the smaller cities in the interior that are impacted by other fires too.

Appreciate the updates on fires in BC. I have family and friend in the line of fire, and information is very welcome. Thanks.

If Justin Trudeau can discontinue Bill C-18 then there shouldn’t be any more problems with Meta.

People still use Facebook? I'm shocked. All that's left on that site is clickbait.

Maybe vote Green next time? Just kidding. That would be bad for the economy. These people losing their homes and love ones are taking one for the team.

PM needs to release 1 billion for emergency aid. Not hold tax payers dollars as a "favour" to match donations. Not his money, it's Canadians money (tax bucks). But alas PM /NDP colalition is socialist. Well- that what we get because people voted for a drama teacher..

Communities throughout bc and the rest of Canada need to help each other out. Help your neighbours, help your communities, utilize your elders knowledge and your youths energy to work on your communities. We need to control burn and rid the excess fuel in the forests, and build fire breaks around municipalities that are of high risk. Have community watches around the clock for suspicious activity and live feed it for the public to view anywhere anytime. Patrol and keep an eye for each other and collectively share resources, the agencies and volunteers only have so much themselves and some very limited experience with our terrain.
