The wildfire crisis is escalating in two different parts of Canada. In the Northwest Territories, tens of thousands have fled Yellowknife as fires encroach on the territory's capital, while B.C. is in a state of emergency. With more fires sparking in the region, firefighters and residents are bracing for more. Richard Zussman has the latest.

In Shushwap lake, a crisis is unfolding with several communities now under evacuation order as danger approaches from the Lower East Adams Lake fire. Thousands of residents are now trying to leave however they can, as the 100 square kilometer fire rapidly grows. Elissa Carpenter has the details.

As winds shift, wildfire smoke from B.C. and the Northwest Territories is expected to make its way across the prairie provinces, potentially heading further east. Katherine Ludwig takes a look at the impacts on the health of Canadians.

Officials in the Northwest Territories are watching the winds. 95 per cent of the city is now evacuated, with only essential workers and those refusing to leave remaining. The city's residents are now turning to Alberta for refuge, a mass exodus with no shortage of challenges — but there was some good news delivered to evacuees. Jeff Semple has the latest.

And finally, as Yellowknife residents have cleared out of the capital city, smaller communities are under threat. The town of Hay River is one of the ones under an evacuation order, and it comes as the nearby hamlet of Enterprise has been nearly completely destroyed. Jayme Doll has more.

I have a son living in Kelowna and so I listen to officials’ daily briefings. I see leadership, dedication, courage, commitment, high levels of efficiency and organisation at both city and provincial levels. Of course, there are also the military and other disciplinary forces, ministers, volunteers and other personnel, both local and from outside Kelowna, who risk their lives to help and save lives and preserve property of others. There are also great people who open their homes and help provide accommodation for evacuees. My son had to evacuate his home and one of his coworkers took him in without hesitation. My family is so grateful. Canada is an awesome country with awesome people. I salute everyone of you. May God keep you and Canada safe.

Calling this our new normal is insane. This is our new hell, this can not be made to be normal.

Seeing the mayor sticking around and helping the firefighters is incredibly admirable , many mayors would leave.

Ephesians 6:18 Wildfires are happening everywhere. Just recently the town of Maui in Hawaii was razed to the ground due to wildfires. And now happening in Kelowa British Columbia in Canada. These are unprecedented for the longest time. Also there are series of flooding's in India, China Canada and elsewhere. These are signs of the times calling upon us to reflect and be reconciled with God. The world is not getting better. If not now when?. Its time we get serious with God.
Let us pray for the affected, for governments to mobilize resources to address the Climate Change. Let us pray for the covering of the blood of Jesus.
Let us encourage ourselves to be serious in this ministry of prayer. The world needs intercessors NOW.
Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Wouldn't it be possible to plant deciduous trees on burnt areas at these latitudes instead of letting the fire-hazardous fir and spruce grow again? I live in Europe at latitude 48, which is compare with the Area of the the US-Canada border in North America. Our deciduous trees can withstand winter temperatures as low as -25°C (-13°F).

Not enough prevention measures taken year after after for wild fires in BC …. Province having millions dollars funds to build bike lanes in BC but how many emergency shelters were made ? How much funds spent to make to build our community to be resilient for wild fire ? How much funds we are spending to get technology to stop fire very beginning to discover fire ? 😢 I don’t have these answers and i feel broken for lack of strategic leadership in our Beautiful BC province
