Global National: July 30, 2024 | US urges restraint after Israel's revenge strike on Hezbollah

In tonight's top story: Israel claims to have killed a Hezbollah commander after attacking a residential neighbourhood in Lebanon's capital of Beiruit. The operation is in retaliation to a previous rocket strike that killed 12 people in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. Jackson Proskow reports on how Israel is justifying the attack and how Lebanon is responding, as the U.S. urges all sides to show restraint.

Turning to the Olympics: Canada's women's rugby sevens team is brimming with pride after its best-ever finish at the Paris Olympics, winning silver in the tournament after a tense match with New Zealand. Heidi Petracek looks at the reaction to the historic result from the team's fans and family.

While the Paris Olympics got off to a rainy start, both athletes and spectators are now being forced to endure a scorching heat wave. Crystal Goomansingh looks at how organizers are trying to keep everyone cool and why the hot weather could be good news for the River Seine, where the swimming portion of the triathlon events is being planned.

Meanwhile, grief and anger are sweeping through the U.K. after a stabbing rampage at a Taylor Swift-themed dance and yoga class killed at least three young girls and left seven other people critically injured. Redmond Shannon reports on the children who died in the attack and the violence that's broken out over the detained suspect's undisclosed identity.

While a bit of rain and cooler temperatures have given firefighters in Western Canada a slight reprieve, it has not been enough to dramatically change the overall wildfire situation in the region. Heather Yourex-West looks at which fires are still keeping thousands of Canadians out of their homes.

A tiny pest leaving behind a graveyard of trees across Canadian forests may have helped stoke some conditions for the devastating fire in Jasper, Alta., but the biggest drivers were heat and dryness, climate and forest scientists say. Mackenzie Gray reports on the factors that exacerbated the blaze.

Plus, the Olympic Games are a chance for athletes from lesser-known sports to shine, including Canadian competitive sailor Sarah Douglas, who just missed out on a medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. As Touria Izri reports, Douglas is confident she will be on the podium in Paris.

“Revenge.” Really? You know Israel is fighting terrorism. Terrorism that broke a treaty and attacked the citizens of Israel. No I am not jewish, I just use common sense.

Hezbollah attacked Israel the day after the Hamas genocide against Israelis on October 7. Hezbollah has been bombarding Israel nonstop, most recently killing children on a soccer field. And the US wants Israel to show restraint??!! Would the US or any other country show restraint under those circumstances??

GloBULL - "Our carefully cultivated TV expert literally says to ignore the lack of forest management and pine beetle infestation leading to dead trees. It's all about climate change, or you're a denier!"

At 17 years old, I’m sure he’s old enough to have take responsibility for what he did. It doesn’t make sense to treat the killer as a child just because he’s couple month away to 18

Donna Freesen should be fired for being biased when covering the news such as talking bad about Trump and talking up Trudeau. Global is starting to be like the next CBC.

The Global News Olympic DEI parade continues with Sarah Douglas from the sailing team. When do we get to be introduced to the men's sailing team? Um... probably never?

Yeaterday a mob of Israelis attacked and invaded an IDF detention facility where the IDF leaders had finally decided to prosecute a guard for rape and violence agqinst a detained Palestinian. The mob was angry that any punishment should be given to the guard. They think it is okay to do this to people. The Israeli doctor who saw the Palestinian man said he could not believe that such barbarism could have been done by Israelis. Where has he been these past 9 months?!?

Hey, Global News, given that Corus Entertainment Inc's current stock price is a measly 10 cents per share (predicted by analysts to possibly plummet to only 1 cent per share in the coming months, i.e. a penny stock) and its your parent company, have you made plans for Corus' eventual bankruptcy and your disappearance as a "news" network in Canada? :)

Thanks for keeping us updated! I feel sympathy and empathy for our country. Low income people are suffering to survive, and I appreciate Michael Elmore. You've helped my family with your advice. Imagine investing $30, 000 and receiving $95, 460 after 28 days of trading
