You could have simple used a DVI-D to HDMI cable for your first setup since that monitor supports DVI-D

I can't get my Roku TV to work as a computer monitor and I don't get why. I bought an end-to-end VGA cable, plugged one end into the computer tower and the other into a HDMI converter, and plugged the converter into an HDMI port on the TV but the TV isn't reading a signal. What am I doing wrong?
