So easy to make no matter what part of the world you live in. If you think belly pork is too fatty, you can use pork butt or other cuts. You can also use chicken or turkey, add salted butter fish or salmon. If you're vegetarian, use sweet potatoes or bread fruit (ulu). Substitute taro leaves for spinach, kale or collard greens. No ti leaves? Use foil or dried lotus leaves from Chinatown but soak and cut to size.

Wow! This recipe sounds just like how Hoki’s Teriyaki Hut, in Seattle, back in the 1980s, used to make it. That was my introduction to lau-lau. I’ve since been to Hawaii a bunch of times and had lau-lau there. I can also get Keoki’s frozen kine at my local supermarket now in Seattle.

As a Fijian we called it a palusami..we add coconut milk to it and put it in the underground oven❤

I want you to know how I appreciate your simple way of cooking 🧑🏻‍🍳..
I never learned how to “ clean” luau ( Taro ) leaves 🍃..auntie, do you know how to “ clean- strip the luau leaves, so we don’t get itchy mouth 👄 😢....?
.. I always buy the frozen luau leaves for that reason…
also, I have a insta pot and use that for everything… I think it will be perfect to cook the laulaus..🥩🌱🐟🐖
