Classical Hawaiian Lau Lau, but with mainland ingredients! I created this traditional dish with staples I like to normally keep around.

Ingredients:
Collard Green Leaves
Swai Fish (or any white fish)
Sweet Potatoes
Pulled Pork Butt
Bacon (or salt pork)
Beet stems (or another veggie stem)

I hope you enjoy!

If you're adding fish, locals prefer black/ling cod, aka butterfish. Locals also use Boston butt/pork butt/pork shoulder & chunks of pork fat for FLAVAH!

Thumbs up for honoring a native Hawaiian dish! Being born and raised in Hawaii and being part native Hawaiian, I always wondered what mainlanders could use for the luau leaf. Looks really good.

I'd suggest ordering a bag of Hawaiian Salt to add to lau laus prior to eating.

I personally like my leaf more soft, but it's personal preference.

Mahalo for sharing your version of a comfort food dear to my heart 🤙🏽

Umm just to let you know, the taro root is not like a sweet potato, that is what Poi is made from. Most mainland people say it taste like Elmers Glue (lol) I also use Spinach as a sub for the leaves and use Butter Fish also

Locals refer to the U.S. as "the mainland/the continent"...50th state/1959. Taro, not tah-ro. Also known in Hi as kalo

In the mainland USA, I've used regular spinach because it's more safer; taro leaves, if not prepared and/or cooked right may cause health issues in the throat. I've even attempt collard greens, but like taro leaves I didn't cook it long enough. So I cooked the rest, 4 hrs longer; it came out good. I used an electric roaster to cook my laulau
