We want to thank Kang Moon-Jung for sharing her inspiring story. Korean Unwed Mothers’ Families Association (KUMFA) is an organization that was started by and for single mothers.

With your help, the group will be able to ensure that other struggling single mothers throughout Korea like Moon Jung have the essentials they need, such as diapers and food, to raise healthy and happy families.

Special thanks to:

If our vision to become the leading voice on addressing social issues and making social impact all over the world resonates with you, you need to subscribe to Asian Boss. That’s how you can help us build a brand so that we can continue to expand our coverage and address even more social issues. The truth is, we can't even monetize this video because of YouTube's community guideline, which provides we can't talk about domestic abuse or violence in detail. However, we felt that it was more important to raise awareness about this issue by showing you what happened to Moon Jung in detail. We are doing our part so please subscribe and let’s show the world how you and people like us, a bunch of nobodies, can help make a difference. Thanks for watching, and stay curious.

It’s so sad she gets discriminated against for being a single mother! She is working hard and doing her best and she loves her kid!

Honestly I have to give props to Asian Boss. It couldn’t have been easy finding a single mom to contact and willing to be interviewed publicly. What non-Koreans won’t comprehend is that single moms ( or teen moms) are treated like pariahs. Not only do they face societal prejudice and degradation but even their parents face scrutiny for raising a daughter with a child out of wedlock (bad parenting, etc). On the scale of societal shame that they face, it’s the absolute worst - it’s actually exponentially worse than an affair.

Wow this Korean woman seems like a strong, hopeful and brave person. Hope all the best to her and her son, hopefully he can get better with his current condition.
Also kudos to her for leaving her abusive ex partner..

sad that she is still calling those who left her when she was in need “friends and family”

Why discriminate against someone who is working hard to keep herself and her child alive all on her own? Someone who is trying her best? It blows my mind how biased people can be.

The kid must really appreciate her when he grows up

When her son grows up, he will be very proud of having such a great mother like her. ;)

Bless this mother, she has gone through so much. But she continues to raise a beautiful child independently.

As a single mother with a Korean daughter, I can understand her struggles completely. When the organization lady said you don't need to struggle alone, I broke.

I’m a single mom from Canada with a son who’s 3 going 4 years old with an autism. I felt her every single word, it hit me deep within my soul. I’m just crying like non stop. 😭😭😭

As a Korean adoptee, who has been reunited with my birth mother, this story cuts very close to the bone for me. I’m familiar with KUMFA and the incredible work they do. I really hope this one of so many stories about single mothers in Korea inspires more people to help KUMFA in any way they can. Thank you Asian Boss for covering this topic, and I hope to see more stories and updates!

She is very brave for sharing her story! I have great respect for single parents. For most of my childhood into early teens, my mom, a Korean immigrant who moved to Queens New York, raised me on her own, and words cannot begin to describe my gratitude. I can spend the rest of my life trying to pay her back, but it wouldn't compare to all she has done for me.

The entire time the feeling I get is that she'll break up crying.
Especially when she's talking about the abuse.
She also seems exhausted. In all honesty, I wish the very best for her.

This story truely breaks my heart :(

My biological mom (korean) found out she was pregnant at 18 years old. She only met my father once and she was not in any relationship. She could expect no financial support from her (our) family and therefor set me up for adoption. I am now 18 years old and have grown up in Norway. Im hoping to meet my mom next year. I respect her decision and im not mad at her for it, but my whole life has felt out of balance and I wish that I got to grow up with my biological parents in my birthcountry.

*She looks so young and the horrible things she went through breaks my heart. It angers me hearing the abuse she endured at the hands of her ex-boyfriend. I pray the best for her and her son.* 🙏

Oh, God. Never go back to him. A man like that will never change, he will only get worse.
