Surfboard rental for a day is 20 dollars, basically. 15 if you rent for a week. Most of the prices quoted here were higher in Tamarindo a couple months ago.

I was lucky to be in Santa 15 years ago. It was much less crowded and less $$. Food is not great. Gourmet restaurants exist, but are quite $$. Food in Supermarkets is not great, and usually much more $$ than in the USA. Unless you eat rice and beans all day. Food is the hardest part of CR, long or short term.

How hard was it to avoid the crowds in the water? (like by going up or down the beach)

I was planning a trip to Nosara and Santa Teresa, but I'm all those people scare me!
