Cost of living crisis in one of Britain's poorest areas

The word crisis implies a temporary emergency that can be fixed and will some day pass. With millions of people struggling to cope with soaring fuel and food bills, the cost of living crisis has become a key concern in the upcoming election.

For many, it's not so much a crisis - but more a desperate, draining way of life. And there's little faith in politicians from either side to do anything about it.

This administration is putting many families in difficult situations. A lot of people are financially struggling to live, put a roof over their head and put food on the table. Things are getting worse these days, if you don't find means of multiplying your money you might wake up a day to realise you didn't plan well for yourself and family…

I’m borderline homeless. Weird that I see people in a documentary on poverty as lucky because even with no heating they at least have a home. What a mess this country is in

I really don’t think people understand just how bad the SEND provision in the UK is. We have stupid politician sitting in their meeting saying these children just need more discipline. Mainstream schools just do not understand or at least if they do they don’t have the resources to help. Andwhat’s worse is when our children grow up, they will be slagged off for not working hard, not getting on and being a burden. They have been failed.

The economic crisis is really worrying, especially with everything going on in the global economy.

The cost of living seems to be increasing every year, making it harder to keep up.

The 'cost of living' crisis should not be called that as it implies it's the fault of all the ordinary people earning middle to low incomes. Let's start calling it what it really is, a cost of greed crisis! Greed of corporations, millionaire/billionaire investors, the banking industry, and a government that works hard on their behalf.

The Tories knighted Ian Duncan Smith. His reward for helping to create poverty in the UK.

The money is there. Socialism for the rich and the poor get poorer. Why there isn't mass uprising in the streets i will never understand? No. The prices are increasing and yet...the owners of these big corporations are receiving big bonus.🤔🤔 Doesn't add up? This "cost of living" crisis is a myth and we are being screwed. There should be NO food banks in one of the richest countries in the world.

And for kicking a ball around one can get between £2-300K a week….what a bizarre world we live in.

I found I was able to live off universal credit and live in a house share but the issue would be if something big went wrong. Your phone breaks, your tooth needs a crown, your shoes fall apart - those are the things that can really mess you up

How on earth are politicians telling citizens they need to care for immigrants, when the citizens themselves are suffering.

A one bed flat in my city is around £1200 a month ridiculous! (Used to be £600 10 years ago) The whole city is run down and deprived, yet its meant to be one of the most the "working poor" couldn't be more true.

The biggest most single problem in the UK today is private landlords, particularly the buy-to-let mortgage landlords. Affordable housing is a thing of the past as long as the government allows landlords to increase rent on an annual basis at ridiculous sums of £50 per month increases without giving any extra amenities. What the government should be doing is bringing landlords under tougher regulation with fairer rents.
