re: quick keying. I learned in the military to key the radio and count to 1 in your head then speak across the mic. If you feel uncomfortable making a voice contact on a net or even 1 on 1, just listen until you have the format down pat.

Yeah I was afraid on my first Contact, but I made the contact and the person on the other side was very nice and told me he was receiving my signal 5x9, we exchanged call signs and then he asked if I would return the radio back to the prison guard.. yeah. I'm hooked.. jokes
