How To Talk On A Ham Radio - Making Your First Contact

When you first get your radio and your call sign, you want to get on the air. In this video I go through some general procedures to show you how to get started to familiarize yourself with talking on your radio. I also discuss new pages on the HR4NT website with helpful information for new Hams.

This is exactly what I needed. I passed my technician test yesterday and I’m a little nervous. I’ve used GMRS a little but my area in Orange Tx doesn’t have many repeaters or active people, but there is a lot of hams in my area. This video give me some confidence 👍🏻

"Get rid of your phobias speaking on the radio." LOL! They speak on the radio all the time of course. Reminds me of my friend. She said on her phone, "nobody uses radio anymore." I replied, "what do you think you're talking into?" Never dawned on her. The radio course I'm going into starts in January. I look forward to it. In fact they referred me to here.
