If it's old I take my cutters and I score it and then cut through it and it never breaks. That's a good trick to keep with you. I hate listening to videos from guys that has only been doing that job for a year and think they know everything. I wish more old timers knew how to use smartphones and post videos.

"You could also use shark bite fittings..."

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of Plumbers cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.

Good point about the old CPVC pipe. I learned this over time to be the case.

I heard a joke from a plumber: “are you a plumber or a shark bite installer?” 😂

There’s also CPVC to pex adapters and CPVC to pro press copper adapters

It’s also just fun to say. Sometimes I’m just sitting at home and just catch myself screaming, “CPVC!”

They make a shakbite that transitions from pvc to pex or copper, way better because you can pressurized right away.

Not biggest shark bite fan but it’s great for copper to pex/cpvc.

Hate hate hate cpvc. I always replace everything with pex or copper. It’s just another problem for another day if you don’t replace it all

I don't like shark bites but I will use them on old cpvc when necessary

I don’t like the plumbing but sometimes I had to deal with that, thanks for the tip

Or if it’s cold a good way to cut it with the cutters is to give it a twist as if to score the pipe while cutting

Brass pipe. PVC outside, & Iron pipe too. Male adapter is Brass. I never use iron 4 new construction myself. Don’t use Shark-bites, I only use 4 temporary .

After working in industry as a mechanic, I don't use anything made of plastic for pressurizes gas or liquids. Your first clue ?. . . "If it's old" All of a sudden it will fail. (split) Been there done that MANY TIMES !

Don't use a female pvc transition adapter. Expansion will occur and it'll leak within a year or a few months depending on pressure and sealants.

*use a pvc male adapter.

My advice would be to get it out asap. Get it out of the house/building asap. Cpvc is for t/p only. If that. I do get some people don’t care but that’s their own risk. For water lines your asking for a flood.
