The guy wearing the parachute did it on purpose and the FAA took serious action against the pilot.

it breaks my heart that there's civil planes that have survived 50 or even 80 years and get destroyed by some brainlet for clout.

Kudos to the instructor safely landing after that engine failure on departure. Quick thinking and response. Emphasizes the importance of training for those scenarios.

Kudos to that young pilot, well done. Not so much that jerk that ditched his plane for views.

As a student pilot solo I had an engine failure shortly after takeoff that resulted in an off-airport landing. I had it recorded on my GoPro under the wing. I only had 57 seconds until I touched down.

@3:33 real-life, NOT staged execution of an 'impossible turn'. ..literally just a few seconds after takeoff. THAT demonstration of calm decisiveness is nothing short of absolutely amazing.

Years ago a young lady was flying a C-150 and called Unicom and said her engine quit. Some one grabbed the mike and told her to pick a place and land normal. Well there was a farmer plowing and she landed in the plowed area and the 150 nosed over. She was not hurt and the 150 needed a little work on it. She did good for a student pilot.

"Thank you Jesus" - understatement of his career.

Trevor Jacob just got sentenced to 6 months in jail after facing up to 20 years. Stupid. What a system.

I had an engine quit on downwind while having a flight review in my J-3. I immediately declared engine failure and turned base then final and landed in the grass next to the runway. The instructor just said good, I’ve seen enough, let’s go sign off your log book. I jumped out, propped it and we headed for the terminal.

My first engine failure happened on my third solo flight in a helicopter. Seventy five feet on take off, not much time to think, autorotation was perfect, not a scratch.

The guy who jumped ended up getting 6 months in jail and has now got his pilots license back as you are allowed to retake it after a year after it's been revoked, he did that and was approved... Mental.

This happened to a friend of mine while he was a student pilot in Denmark. Total engine failure.
Instructor: "So what do you do now?"
Student: "There is a nice field down there. I guess I'll land there". (That country is rather flat)
He landed. They got somebody there who repaired the plane on the spot. He started from the field and flew home.

Very good video! My instructor allways said to me: " Continuously watch the terrain during the flight. Because if the engine stop, you can find easier a good place to land..."

Hi! Pilot from Belgium. I like your channel very much! Your analyzes are correct and without bias. A tip: create some more time between your goodbye and the end of your video so that the viewers have more time to hit the like button when using the YouTube app on television or appleTV! 👍🏼

I love how you put a couple of the best recent landings after that atrocious display by Jacobs. 😊 Great comparision of how to fly and how gain respect of your fellow aviators.

best thing i did after just getting my first pilot license is spend 12 hours of dual with an aerobics instructor doing ONLY engine outs. I learned a LOT about how far you can push a cessna to its absolute limits in those 12 hours. On some pattern work, he would pull the engine off three times in one pattern. I recommend that to everyone. If you really know how to do an engine out, it is highly unlikely you will not walk away from the real thing.

My instructor forced me to lose an engine and I love him for it.
We were turning base and he just... pulled back the throttle and pulled back the mixture.
I love him for that.

I was waiting to see if you knew the aftermath of the guy flying in the mountains! Some people will do anything to get attention (or views)! Thanks for the explanations (and your photos!), very enjoyable.
