A 17-year-old student pilot successfully landed a plane that had lost a wheel Sunday, keeping calm under immense pressure. Maggie Taraska had just taken off on her first solo flight in a single-engine Piper PA-28 Warrior when the plane's right main wheel fell off. Taraska circled the Beverly Regional Airport in Massachusetts for the next half-hour as her flight instructor, John Singleton, and air traffic controllers coached her through what she needed to do. #InsideEdition

She had her moment of panic as she was still safe up in the air. Then she’s “right I can do this” and did it like a pro 💅🏻

Her instructor talking her down deserves a lot of credit. He spoke calmly and kept reassuring her she was ok. This is the best advertising for the school the instructor works for

A hero is not a person who has no fear. A hero is a person who is afraid but still does what has to be done. Maggie is a true hero.

Beautiful job handing this emergency on your first solo flight Maggie! You did great and you definitely have the right stuff. Any landing you can walk away from is a good one 👍

You've got a 17-year-old teen doing an emergency landing with an airplane on her first solo...
and...
You've got thousands of old experienced people failing to _pilot_ their car on a high way....
Good Job kid, you nailed it...

What a perfect example of this young lady pulling herself together and those instructors letting them know they have her back and helping bolster her confidence. Everyone involved should be proud!

The most important thing to say that Inside Edition is that this was her FIRST SOLO FLIGHT EVER. SHE HAD NEVER FLOWN ALONE My student pilot friend showed me the whole audio and cried even though she's listened to it multiple times. Imagine hearing that the wheel literally fell off the plane while also under the pressure of flying with no one to help you for the first time. I don't know how she managed to do everything so perfectly. She had to land leaning heavily to one side to put the one wheel on the ground and stay balanced which must have been horrifying. So happy everything went well.

0:36 My heart breaks. Bravo Zulu Maggie! I'm afraid had I been flying that aircraft the most damage would have been to the pilot seat. You have earned the callsign "Warrior". Respect.

Maggie did a great job, but I think the airplane staff staying calm and cool really helped 😊

I have two daughters. When she said that first "ok" it ripped my heart out. She did an amazing job. So proud of her. I'm very glad she's safe.
