PS4 1215A (1200) Disc Drive Replacement

This PS4 1215A disc drive replacement video is a step by step guide to replacing the disc drive in the PS4 1215A (AKA 1200).

We disassemble the console down to the disc drive, then install another disc drive from another PS4 of the same model to see if it will work.

Previous models of Playstation 4 consoles had a PCB on top of the blu ray drive that had an IC chip that was matched or married to the motherboard. That daughterboard has to be always kept with that motherboard or else the drive would not work.

The newest model of PS4, the 12xx does not have that circuit board so the game disc drives can be swapped out at will.

After we swap the drive we put the device back together, turn it on and play a disc to see if it works or not.

Thank you so much. Worked like a charm. A couple of things though.
1-There is no need to disconnect the power supply from the motherboard. It is not easy to disconnect like your video and seems to be easily broken as I tried, mine didn’t want to disconnect, so I just pushed it back down the little I got it up, and left it there.
2- There is no need to disconnect the WiFi cable from the motherboard, you can easily de-route and re-route the WiFi cable without disconnecting from the motherboard.
3- I ordered my disc drive from Amazon for $59. You have to switch that green chip that’s on your disc drive to the new disc drive as that chip is married to your console.

My install went great without disconnecting those 2 connections from the motherboard, and I believe doing so would have broke my console so instead of muscling it out, I let it be.
Hope this helps someone in my situation.
