For years I used elec tape to add a piece of hose. Then I grew up and started using tubeless caulk

Prevents dirt /debris.. easier maintenance. Also adds structural support as most toilet are not perfectly flat on the underside.

If the wax ring fails, the customer won't know because you decided to caulk the base of the toilet. My wax ring failed on my toilet. How'd I know? I could see a little water leaching out of the bottom of my toilet after I flushed it. I'm not a plummer, even I know that.

I have went thru four of them before i went back to the regular gun. For hard to reach area's i use a small tube.

Been doing this since 2005. Never once used a caulk gun on a toilet. That’s probably better stuff than the tubes of white dap I use but fuck all that. Squeeze tube and a sponge is the only way to go for me.

Been in the industry for 20 plus years, every time I see a caulked base it looks lousy and like a DIY homeowners project. Only looks okay for a little while.

Completely pointless unless you think it looks "finished." If so, you also likely caulk the bottom of your baseboards too.

Usually, it's a sign of cover up for bad workmanship elsewhere. To be gracious, maybe guys do it to cover the floor guys bad work.

Every caulked toilet i see looks grimey and disgusting. Easy enough to clear under it beyond the eye with a brush or wet wipe.
