The country has a strict protective policy favoring local businesses, in a way that greatly limits buying abroad.
This must change, it doesn't fit a modern country.

It's sad to have to pay those ridiculously high import charges that literally make impossible to buy every day items that you can only buy from abroad. They make you plan a trip abroad and spend $1000 on a flight ticket only to get the stuff you can get at a reasonable price. It makes you feel isolated in some way. Electronics and food not produced in Uruguay is at forbidden prices. Sad. It makes me furious that politicians allow or are happy for these things to happen.
