I learnt English as my first language in a "non-English" country. I was taught that the comma is a separator whose primary function is to avoid using and multiple times while seperating objects for example.
I was taught that ", and" was wrong because the purpose of the comma was to substitute 'and', not to be used together lol.

A quick explanation: for example- I went to Hawaii with my parents, Harry Styles and Sabrina Carpenter(that's when you don't use the oxford comma so grammatically, you mean to say that Harry Styles and Sabrina Carpenter are your parents) when actually what you mean is: I went to Hawaii with my parents, Harry Styles, and Sabrina Carpenter. Hope this is clear!

Let me be the paragraph guy :
An Oxford comma is a comma used after the second-to-last item in a list of 3+ items, that goes BEFORE ‘and’ or ‘or’
Meaning: instead of writing "pies, cupcakes, muffins and tarts" you'll put a comma after "muffins", so "pies, cupcakes, muffins, and tarts"

Commas are usually in replacement of ‘and’ when used in a list. That’s what we were taught as children. The Oxford comma uses it in addition to ‘and’ in a list. For example, I like eating oats, chocolate, cheese, and crackers.

Most people wouldn’t put a comma after cheese, but that’s the Oxford comma

i looked up what the oxford comma is (not a native english speaker) and i don't use it bc i think it's unnecessary. in my native language, when the same context is applied, the oxford comma is actually grammatically incorrect. also i just seem to think of and, or, etc. as replacements for the comma, like it's either that or the comma

The Oxford comma can help clarify meaning. For example, in the sentence "This book is dedicated to my parents, Beyonce and Jay Z", without the Oxford comma, it could be implied that the writer's parents are Beyonce and Jay Z.

The Oxford comma, also known as the serial comma, is a comma used in a series of three or more items to separate the penultimate item from the coordinating conjunction, such as "and" or "or". For example, in the sentence "He went to the market to buy eggs, cheese, and bread", the comma before "and" is the Oxford comma

Copied from google so that u dont have to

Realising Indian kids pre 21st century were taught to use the Oxford comma and we never knew it's called that

I didn’t know that was called the Oxford comma- I was taught in like 4nd grade that without it my “essay was grammatically incorrect” (yes we had to write essays in 4th grade)

After learning what an Oxford comma is, I finally understand why some people _don't_ put the comma before "and." 😭
I've always used an Oxford comma and never understood why people haven't. 😭

English is not my first language but we were told a comma is used to seperate words/statements. However, using ", and"is obsolete as it already serves the purpose of seperating words/statements. (sort of like a filler word)

I was not taught to do it and honestly it feels illegal to use it.
