I mean, isn't the comma just a substitute for "and"? To avoid sentences like: "An apple and a pear and a bucket and an orange and a suitcase and a bike and..."
So why would anyone misinterpret it without an oxford comma. Doesn't make sense to me, seems very redundant.

Food and drink is different than food or drink. I think that was a word issue not a comma issue.
