Week 40 of Pregnancy 🤰 40 weeks pregnant, 40 week pregnancy, week 40 pregnancy, 40th week of pregnancy

What’s up with baby’s “cone-head” look at birth? And when do most mamas actually give birth (relative to their due date)?

Baby at 40 Weeks Pregnant 🚼 40 weeks baby in womb, baby at 40 weeks in womb, 40 weeks pregnant inside the womb, 40 weeks pregnant baby position, 40 weeks pregnant baby moving

YIPPEE! You’ve reached the “end” of your pregnancy! (Although, for many mamas, it ain’t over yet!)
Fortunately, Baby Natural’s still probably at the same stats as last week: 7 to 9 pounds in weight, and 18 to 22 inches in length.
Baby’s bones are mostly cartilage, and the bones in the skull are not yet fused—perfect to move and compress a bit when Baby Natural makes his grand entrance.

In fact, the bones in the skull can overlap and cause “molding” at birth—more commonly known as cone-headedness. Don’t worry, that pointy head look is only temporary. (And, I gotta say, even though we were mentally prepared for this, my hubs and I were still pretty shocked when our baby Griffin looked like something out of the movie Alien.)
When he is born, baby will recognize your voice and probably your partner’s too. But baby won’t be able to get a terribly good look at you. At birth, baby can really only make out lights, shapes, and movement. But by one month, he will be able to focus on things 8 to 10 inches away—in other words, the perfect distance to a parent’s face. ❤️

You at 40 Weeks Pregnant 🚺

If you’re like 1 in 20 moms, you will give birth on your due date.
Yep, your likelihood of delivering right on the date is 4%, according to data from the Perinatal Institute.
Whereas 60% of babies are born within a week on either side of their due date. And more than 90% are born within 2 weeks on either side of their due date.
In fact, you are statistically most likely to give birth 1 week and 1 day after your due date if you are a first-time mom.
Get the theme here? “Due date” isn't really the greatest term for what’s going on here. “Guess” date is a little more like it!

You got this, mama! 💡

You’ve done your homework. You’ve trained your mind, body, and spirit. You’ve fed yourself and your baby the best pregnancy diet you could. You’ve chosen your best birth location, put together a great support team, and packed your hospital bag.

Baby came right on my due date! I drank tea made from pineapple rind a couple days up to labor, as well as taking Dr Christiansens birth prep pills starting at 37 weeks and doubling the dose so by the time I went into labor I had only one pill left to take! I also did a lot of walking the day before. Even though I don't think you can make labor start, I also think those things helped. I did nipple stimulation in between contractions once I was pretty sure I was in labor so it would continue. My midwife showed up to do a basic checkup and it was just in time because I was dilated to a 4 and going strong and I needed support. I had a natural birth at home in a birth pool. I had two midwives, one doula, and my husband all coaching me and I needed all that support and more! I suprised myself with how much I could handle and almost didn't believe I had done it once baby was born. I feel so happy to have accomplished my first natural birth (I had two previous with epidurals). At home was so much more empowering, and the only issue was I didn't know what to expect so I was often concerned, but all the stuff I studied brought me back to the basics (bhavabirth.com had a class that saved my bacon, all their information helped so much!). Thank you for your videos. My kids got to see baby come out (we woke them at the last second and got lucky, haha) and they thought it was super cool. I applaud anyone who supports women giving birth naturally! Also, I am totally for epidurals too because natural birth is the hardest thing I've ever done!!!

I’m 39 weeks this week with my first. I have mild lower abdominal pains and they have been coming 10-15 minutes apart. Not increasing in strength. Hope it’s the beginning of true labour.
